producer Adi Shankar describes it as Castlevania done in the vein of Game of Thrones R-rated as fuck
and the best fucking video game adaptation we've had to date. not sure the latter is even anything to brag about at this moment. but it's out today. anyone else excited?

That description alone makes me never want to see this.
They rated it R for no other reason than they thought it was cool and are making it like Game of Thrones because ripping that show off is the thing to do.

yikes. only four episodes so far. when i saw that i figured it would basically be a feature length picture broken up, but it left off mid story ( it's already been renewed). i wonder if it's possible we'll see seasons adapting other entries in the series. Simon would be nice but might be unlikely with no supporting cast to speak of. i always pictured Syfa being French for some reason. did they snub Grant? DarkManXthat guy is batshit. i guess he was trying to sell the show on people? i dunno, the similarities to Game of Thrones began and ended with the genre (though i guess Trevor wears a furlined coat?) and it scarcely broke PG-13. i do agree it's easily the best videogame adaption i've seen. i don't see the problem in giving a Horror/Fantasy/Action series about a clan of professional monster hunters an R rating. even the games were censored at points during U.S. localization.

Well that's good to hear. I never heard of this before now. Where did you see it at? I'm always leery of movies or shows based on videogames, they typically aren't good and I've been burned more than once. I am sick and tired of new shows being advertised as "insert show here meets Game of Thrones." The creators either haven't seen Game of Thrones or either missed the point of why the show was good. It was the reason I never watched The Expanse.

Just watched it. It is actually good and nothing at all like GoT. The person who did that advertisement needs to be shot.
It's based on Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse which I liked a great deal though grant is not in it. Of course as far as the game goes Trevor meets him in the Clock Tower and they haven't gone to the castle yet so I imagine he'll show up in season 2.

I feel that season 2 wasn't well-structured. There are almost no action sequences for the first 5 episodes and then we get 2 episodes of almost non-stop action. The sequences aren't badly-made, but it was hard to still be invested by that point. It's disappointing because season 1 was so well-paced. I know it had half the amount of episodes, but it's not about that; it's about how you distribute and balance the different elements.

There were more action sequences spread throughout season 3, but the pacing was still off. I don't think it was a good idea to keep all the main characters apart (except for a couple of duos). This results in different story arcs that aren't really tied together. The previous seasons were pretty much limited to 2 arcs with 1 group of characters each, and they tied together by the end.

While there were enjoyable moments throughout season 4, most of them happened during the last 2 episodes, while the first 8 bored me to tears. The editing during the climactic battle in episode 9 was bad. Considering how dark and gory the show is, episode 10 earned its sweet moments, resulting in a satisfying finale.
