"You got a four-legged time bomb!"One night, while driving home from work, a young actress Julie Sawyer (Kristy McNichol) accidentally runs into a handsome and mysterious stranger (A big white German Shepherd) with her car. As a result, she ends up saving his life, and as there's no sign of any owner looking for it, Julie decides to keep it for a while, just to see how things work out. But when learning that there have been several gruesome attacks taking place in her neighborhood, she starts to wonder if her new four legged companion might have something to do with it.Samuel Fuller's take on racism through the eyes of a dog, turned out to be a pretty damn good thriller, with a fine and moody soundtrack by Ennio Morricone and starring Paul Winfield as an animal trainer who tries his best to overcome the beast within. White Dog is my favorite of the "evil hounds from hell" films, and for years I hoped for a decent DVD release, as the only one that seemed to be uncut was a very pricy German release, and so I was very pleased to learn the new that The Criterion Collection would finally bring out this overlooked little 80s gem, uncut and remastered for the first time in the end of 2008.

Hard-hitting filmmaking by Samuel Fuller with a potent message. Never understood why it was labelled racist by some. Ennio Morricone's stirring music score is so good, and makes the films climax very powerful. Kristy McNichol and Paul Winfield are great. The book is a very good read too.

I have a DVD of it. I heard it was rare but Im not positive on that. As a dog lover this is a really sad film for me. I like Paul Winfield in it. He was a very solid actor. He passed away far too soon.
