I really love The Prince of Egypt. Despite being marketed for families, the film does not shy away from portraying the events in a serious manner, as opposed to the humorous manner I've seen in other "little kid' versions.

Tangina: Cross over children! All are welcome! All Welcome! Go into the light!
Steve: No, no, you said no.
Tangina: There is peace and serenity in the light.
When I enjoy a nice cup of after dinner decaf and I reflect on the stresses of the day a scene or quote from a movie might come to mind. That will be my favorite movie for the time. It fits. Today it was Poltergeist I.
I think perhaps the greatest religious movie of all time was Cecil B. DeMille's Ten Commandents.

I have similar questions. I know most people on this board can stand The Exorcist (1973). I can't blame them, the language was extraordinarily vile. If you're able to close your ears to that it wasn't such a bad movie.

There are many that touch upon religion, such as Life of Pi, which is my favorite movie of all time, but the greatest movie that is very heavily and almost exclusively about religion is Martin Scorsese's Silence.

Please give comments about the religious movies you have liked best. My favoruite religious movie is Ordet (1955). A great story on faith and loss of faith and once again finding faith after losing it. I also liked Ben-Hur (1959) for excellent story, costumes, stunts and performances. Edit: Sorry, I forgot to add the 'other option'. You could leave comments if there are religious movies you liked that are not on the list. You and your old movies lol ive only seen prince of egypt from the list

Yeah, there have been some good non-christian religious movies. Like Narayama Bushiko (The Ballad of Narayama). Both 1958 and 1983 versions of Narayama are very beautiful and meaningful movies.

Have you seen The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser. I guess that's more of fantasy stuff but has religious elements in it.

Jesus of Nazareth (1977), a TV miniseries, is fantastic and my favorite telling of The Gospels.

Directed by renown director Franco Zefferelli and starring about a million famous actors, including Anne Bancroft, Laurence Olivier, James Mason, Christopher Plummer... www.imdb.com/title/tt0075520/?ref_=ttfc_fc_tt

ITT: RFAS members reveal what a collectively terrible taste in movies they have. Seriously, that obnoxious, overblown DeMille mess and Gibson's torture porn aren't worthy of even being on the same list as Dreyer's Joan of Arc and Ordet, Bresson's Balthasar, or Wenders's Wings of Desire... not even remotely on the same level. Get some taste, people!
