I'm betting it'll settle at 85+ on Metacritic and 90+ on Rotten Tomatoes.
I hate the Oscar's with a passion, but a lot of people are saying that it's the frontrunner for Best Picture. According to another source, Dunkirk has a good chance with bookies as well (http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/oscars-2018-best-picture-odds-betting-bookmakers-dunkirk-the-get-out-the-beguiled-a7845411.html).
Maybe the Academy can redeem themselves for crap picks the last 20 years.

If dunkirk loses to some shit gay Italian film (yes, which is also a front runner from SXSW I believe) than I'll be so pissed.

Dunkirk is about brave white men back in the 1940's who fought in war. That's not promising for them. I don't know if Dunkirk has a chance. I'd rather us normal folks like it. They can have the foreign crap.

A few quotes from the reviews so far to summarize the critical consensus:
"There are no brothers in arms, no flashbacks to simpler times and pretty wives and girlfriends left behind, no old men in situation rooms pontificating about politics or helping with exposition. There's no talk of Hitler, or Germans or battlefields or trauma or mothers. In fact, there's hardly any talk at all, or, for that matter, even any characters in the traditional sense.
But don't be mistaken: Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" is a stone cold masterpiece. It's a stunningly immersive survival film told in 106 thrillingly realized minutes." - ABC News
"Dunkirk is an impressionist masterpiece. In Dunkirk, Nolan has gotten everything just right." - The Hollywood Reporter
"After a career of mind-bending fantasies, writer-director Christopher Nolan has now crafted a historical epic almost too perfect to believe. Dunkirk deserves mention among the finest war movies ever." - Tampay Bay Times
"Steven Spielberg laid claim to the Normandy beach landing, Clint Eastwood owns Iwo Jima, and now, Christopher Nolan has authored the definitive cinematic version of Dunkirk. It’s one of the great entries in a well-worn genre that has never, ever seen anything quite like it." - Variety
"The nerve-racking war thriller Dunkirk is the movie Christopher Nolan’s entire career has been building up to, in ways that even he may not have realized. Nolan gives us one of the leanest, most ingenious studio films in quite a while: an intercutting montage of competing timelines that expand and contract and collide in ways both inevitable and surprising. And somehow, it’s also uncharacteristically intimate." - Village People

Is anyone looking at the average rating for the film? A 9.1! I know it's most likely going to drop, but that is pretty insane.

Didn't expect the metacritic to be so high. The last 2 Nolan films have been my personal favourites of his work, looks like a hatrick is inbound. Cant wait for Friday!

When reading the reviews, you can hear the sloppy slurping from the fanboys.

I think it's now safe to say that 2017 is one of the best years for movies this century and there are still 5 more months for movies left.
Get Out - 99% RT - 84 MT Logan - 93% RT - 77 MT Wonder Woman - 92% RT - 76 MT Baby Driver - 95% RT - 86 MT Spider-Man: Homecoming; 92% RT - 73 MT War for the Planet of the Apes - 95% RT - 82 MT The Big Sick - 97% RT - 87 MT Your Name - 98% RT - 79 MT The Lego Batman Movie - 90% RT - 75 MT The Red Turtle - 94% RT - 86 MT Raw - 91% RT - 81 MT It Comes At Night - 88% RT - 78 MT Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - 81% RT - 67 MT The Lost City of Z - 87% RT - 78 MT Silence - 85% RT - 79 MT Okja - 85% RT - 76 MT The Salesman - 97% RT - 85 MT My Life as a Zucchini - 100% RT - 85 MT A Ghost Story - 88% RT - 84 MT Dunkirk - 98% - 97 MT
These are a few movies that still have to come out: Girls Trip Atomic Blonde Brigsby Bear The Dark Tower Annabelle: Creation The Hitman's Bodyguard Logan Lucky It American Assassin Kingsman: The Golden Circle Blade Runner 2049 God Particle Thor: Ragnarok Murder on the Orient Express Justice League Coco Call Me By Your Name The Shape of Water Star Wars: The Last Jedi Phantom Thread
And probably some movies for the Academy Awards somewhere in December.

Good to see the embargo lifted. Can't wait to see this, Nolan might be one of the best directors of this century

Photoshop warning (so not real)
This would of course be everyone's dream, but in all seriousness what do you think the RT average and/or percentage will be for Dunkirk? Based on the first reactions it's almost sure it will get a fresh rating, but will it be more than 80% or maybe even close to 90%? The hilarious thing is that this photoshopped version of rotten tomatoes might actually be pretty close to the eventual rating and right now it's even better. I would have never ever believed that if you said that to me 2 days ago.

I just got an ad for Dunkirk on TV a minute or two ago. And one review it mentioned said that it's the movie of the summer (that's Den of Geek's review)

We damn well better see soldiers SMOKING CIGARETTES in this movie... Otherwise it would not be historically accurate.

A Belgian critic called it one of the most memorable movies he's ever seen. A masterpiece, well deserving of Oscars. An impressive technical feat, sober, focused on the human element. With nonstop music that never gets boring and supports the story.
I'm still not sure if I'm going to watch it though. It's still a WWII movie, who cares?
