It seems that their multicultural team of various religious faiths and beliefs (and now genders and sexes) has one thing in common. They always use Westerners as bad guys in the AC universe.
Crusaders in the first game. The Byzantine in Revelations - in the recently conquered Constantinople no less. It's pretty much like making a game about evil Jewish secret societies flourishing in the Auschwitz barracks.
And now Ptolemies in this new one? Ptolemies? They were the most tolerant and cultural of all Diadochi and I think they are doing them a great disservice.

If I recall correctly, wasn't the Grand Master of the Assassins one of the villains in the first game (I didn't really finish that one)? I think he was Middle-Easterner.
As for the Ezio period, he was Italian. It would be odd if the villains arrived from Asia or Africa. The same goes for the colonial era. I suppose they could have made a few native antagonists, but that would have made them fairly underpowered. That would simply have been bad storytelling, especially in a video game. The first rule is that the protagonists are the underdog with the odds against him.
I never played any of the games after that, so I won't comment on it.
