"What the hell happened to Rosemary?"
A small group of "lucky" people are being treated for a very special free screening at an renovated cinematic theater, but when one of the audience members ends up cutting herself on a nasty old mask, the movie lovin' crowd will get a whole lot more than bargained for, as they have one nasty surprise after another coming up, and with nowhere to go.
Demons aka Dèmoni is a total 80s horror riot that features solid special effects, lots of gore, cool and nasty looking creatures, incredible acting/dubbing talent (specially by the great Bobby Rhodes as Tony da Pimp), a very fun and catchy soundtrack/songs included and much, much more.
Directed by Lamberto Bava and produced/co-written by Dario Argento, this highly enjoyable horror/adventure is a favorite of mine.
There is just so many hilarious and strange things going, that everytime I see it, I end up noticing something new and funny.
The whole idea/plot is that we have a bunch of random people gathering around in a dark cinema, about to watch some horror movie, but instead they will end up with the scare of their life's as the film experience ends up becoming a bloody nightmare.
I guess now, it is probably seen more of a comedy than horror, but I really loved this kind of 80s demons/zombie pictures, and specially when made by the Italians.
For me, the main star is Bobby Rhodes. I love how this "gentle" soul do not only take care of his special ladies, but when the shit gets real, he is not afraid of order everybody around like he was in charge of the damn place. Sadly for him, not everyone is following his fine example of taking safety precautions:
"SMASH EVERYTHING! TRASH EVERYTHING!"
My favorite part is when Tony bursts down a door, only to find out there is another one waiting:
" Shit ... another door"
The good news is that Bobby would turn up again in the sequel, Demons 2 (1986), this time as Hank, the gym instructor and once again he is not afraid of taking charge.
"More energy Mueller, More Energy!"
"You're all muscle and no brains!"
"Keep pumping baby!"
In the sequel, which I also thought was a good watch, the people are now trapped inside a big/high building and over the next years several films was tried to be sold as part of the Demons franchise, but I am not sure if there ever was one that was to be the true third film.
