While most comic book fans are probably aware that Darkseid came first, how exactly are they going to make sure that the DCEU version of Darkseid won't just be seen as a Thanos clone? He's obviously supposed to be the overarching villain for the DCEU, much like Thanos is for the MCU, so how else should they make him stand out?
I think that's probably going to be a bit of a challenge for the DCEU going forward, especially after 'Infinity War'.

Make him a more active character. Thanos does seem to just sit around in his chair a lot. As the ruler of Apokolips, Darkseid should be Darth Vader and Palpatine combined. One thing I will applaud Snyder for is his apocalyptic vision of a Darkseid invasion. That looks awesome and haunting as hell. Aim for that.

The motivations of Darkseid are totally different to Thanos.

A good start would be not have his hand picked most powerful lieutenant be defeated by a dance off.

I doubt it will happen in THIS movie but perhaps in a sequel, let him win. What a cliffhanger.

They certainly didn't exploit him as well as X-Men did. I'm just wondering how are they going to showcase Flash's abilities as well as X-Men did with QS

Give us Darkseid in a sequel, being the background villain without a lot of screentime but fully shown. Have him win the battle. Also make him a much more deadlier villain than Thanos.

I guess while we're on the subject of Darkseid, who do you think should play him? My money is currently on Michael Mcelhatton playing him. He's got the right voice for it.

Darkseid should be less "Quippy"
Now I am all for the Marvel one liners, don't get me wrong. But Thanos is coming across thusfar as cocky and a little snide. So I am sure he will have some clever one liners that will be great for that character and universe.
Darkseid should be more stoic...(Darkseid should be the stoic one in the universe, not Superman) He should be humorless, but still compelling. I agree with the Darth Vader comparison.

Go full New Gods, show all of them. Highfather, Orion, Big Barda, Mr. Miracle, Granny Goodness, Desaad, Glorious Godfrey...

I think that's probably going to be a bit of a challenge for the DCEU going forward, especially after 'Infinity War'. Just make him better. Doesn't matter if he seems similar to Thanos, as long as he's done better, is more menacing, has more an impact in the DCEU world - he'll be praised more. Same thing happened to BvS and Civil War. BvS was announced and developed first, was aired first, but in the end it's Civil War that people praise simply because it was the better movie. DC might not have the advantage of being first this time but they have the advantage of watching how MCU handles Thanos and maybe they can learn from it and improve on their version of the big bad - Darkseid.

They should look to the DCAU.

They should look to the DCAU. I'm not sure that version of him would be all that different from the MCU version of Thanos.

Darkseid incinerated those who disobeyed him (including Desaad).
Thanos just sat back while Ronan killed The Other right in front of him.
Already Darkseid is more proactive than Thanos.
But to be fair, we've only seen glimpses of Thanos. We don't know what his character will really be like. But the DCAU has done such a great job with The Fourth World characters, they'd make good references for the DCEU.
