Me: I like them. I do. They have a greats sound, nice lyrics, mellow with smooth vocals and harmonies. And they have two fun animated videos to watch. I have the debut album, Fleet Foxes and the EP, Sun Giant. Good stuff. For now though, I think that is all I'm going to get. Frankly, I just don't hear much variation not only between albums but between songs as well. I guess they are just playing it safe or being in their own comfort zone and not really trying to branch out or experiment and break through the groove they are in. Which is fine if they do that, but it doesn't want to make me buy any more of their stuff or see them live where on stage is an exact copy of what I already have on disc. I wanna be a fan but it's frustrating because since they sound the same in every song, it holds me back.

Am I the only one who thinks they sound the same? If not, then how are they different? What am I missing?

I have their first album. Never really play it much.
But, their drummer left the band and he's turned out to be pretty good on his own.
I listen to his new one more than the new Fleet Foxes.
Here it is.

I've really liked this song ever since the first heard it and kept wondering what it was called/who sang it, but didn't discover it was Fleet Foxes until years later.
I've been hearing some other songs of theirs on the radio lately which I've quite liked.

That Fleet Foxes He Doesn't Know Why is pretty darn good. Nice melody, background vocals.

The debut was a lovely breezy slice of melodic folk-pop, loved it then and still do now. I tried a few times (at the time) to get into follow up, Helplessness Blues but couldn't. Then they disappeared. With the announcement of the new album I thought I'd give Helplessness Blues another shot. I liked it more and appreciated it for what it was, a more abstract, progressive take on the genre. Haven't heard the new one yet, but will give it a listen soon.
