This one really goes without saying. don't you think?
i.e. the one from 2013. it's the clear weak link of the series.
My preference of the series...
1.Die Hard With a Vengeance (1995) - 8/10 (within my Top 56 movies) 2.Die Hard (1988) - 7.5-8/10 (within my Top 105 movies) 3.Die Hard 2 (1990) - 6-6.5/10 (within my Top 235 movies) 4.Live Free or Die Hard (2007) - 6/10 (a mild Thumbs Up) 5.A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) - 2/10 (boring)
for the record... I mildly liked the 2013 movie on my initial viewing but on a re-watch I could not finish it due to boredom and turned it off @ 30min. also, I used to think more highly of the 2007 movie but that's taken a solid hit to but I still mildly like that one.

Not sure if I’ve seen the last one. So my vote is for the one before it. With a Vengeance is a quality sequel.

No contest. A Good Day to Die Hard is absolute garbage. I blame the scriptwriter.

Die Hard 5 is the worst by far. No question. An R rating doesn't make a film better either.
The second AVP film was rated R too, and it was still worse than the PG-13 first film.

I still don't get the hate for Live Free or Die Hard. I thought it was pretty good, almost up there in quality with the first three.

The last two were terrible, they didn't even feel like Die Hard movies. Hard to say which is worse.

Die Hard With A Vengeance is great. IMO, it's easily the best of the sequels and almost as good as the original.
Life Free isn't as good as the original trilogy, but I feel it's a decent enough action movie. Willis at least puts in some effort and there's some fun sequences. Watch the Unrated Cut though.
Now, for the topic question the absolute worst film in the series would be that god-awful fifth installment. Willis doesn't even play McClane; he portrays the same generic action hero he's been playing in numerous paycheck projects of recent years. The poorly-directed action sequences, flat villains and lack of anything resembling a story make this one of the worst sequels ever. Seriously, I try to pretend it never happened.

I hate both of the last two films, but have to give 5 (good day) a slight edge over 4 because
A. Justin Long doesn't make an appearance B. Timothy Olyphant is a terrible bad guy C. Destroying highway overpasses hanging onto a harrier type jet is way over the top, even more than the helicopter sequence in Chernobyl.
Die Hard - 9 stars out of 10 Die Hard 2 - 7 stars out of 10 Die Hard 3 - 8.5 stars out of 10 (almost as great as the first one) Die Hard 4 - 2 stars out of 10 Die Hard 5 - 3 stars out of 10
