Thoughts on this?
Will it be a close re-imagining of the novel (dark, atmospheric, and tragic), or just another cookie cutter teen show ("Oh. My. Gawd", gore, and suggested sex)?

Isn't the show's creator the same person that created Teen Wolf? I think that says it all.

I can see it working but I'll remain doubtful until further updates on it.

Odds on you're right, but I'll settle for acceptable if it generates discussion. The show runner was talking up the novel and didn't mention either film when interviewed, if that's any indication of his intent.

Does it follow the canon of the American version of the movie or is it its own adaptation?

Well, the makers from the english version also talked a lot about the book... True enough. Although in 2010, when Let Me In was released, almost no-one had seen Let The Right One In so I can understand them wanting to avoid attaching their film to what was a commercial non entity. Whereas the book was a best seller in Sweden and had a good reputation across Europe, a much more positive entity to leach from. The TV show doesn't have the same issue as it is going after a different market, where Let Me In was aiming for the same market as Let The Right One In. The vast majority of people that might be interested in this show probably haven't heard of either film and will be more swayed by Jeff Davis' previous TV work ... Teen Wolf. IMO.

I'm intrigued as to what a TV series would offer.

Don't tell me that after two movies one after each other, they are actually also making a TV show?? I mean I love the story, but they are milking this bone dry.

Well, Hammer already had the rights to pursue a TV show, so... "but they are milking this bone dry." more like it is being exsanguinated
