Salem's Lot is, by far, my favorite Stephen King book. I've read it many, many times over the years and still am fascinated by his ability to make goosebumps travel up my spine! The scene where Ben Mears is sitting in an examining room as the corpse of Marjorie Glick slowly rises from the gurney is high octane horror. They did it so well in the Salem's Lot made-for-TV mini series back in 1979. My second favorite book of King's is The Shining; I stayed up until 4:30 in the morning reading that one--and this was before the movie came out! I also love Carrie, which is quite a bit different than the movie--but I love the original movie, too. Piper Laurie is amazing.

My favorite of his is The Stand. I haven't read Salem's Lot in so long. I might have to read it again soon. I thought he was going to do a sequel but he said he had revisited it in The Wolves of the Calla and Song of Susannah

I have the book but haven't read it yet. Since he got the idea for it from teaching Dracula, I wanted to re-read Dracula first to reacquaint myself with it. I got about halfway through back in October then forgot about it.

I was slightly disappointed by 'Salem's Lot but want to reread it. I liked The Shining more. Didn't like The Stand at all.

Yes, 'Salem's Lot is the best 'modern' vampire novel I have read. I still think Dracula is the best vampire novel overall.
My favorite King novel is Carrie.

I guess because I love the film so much and while reading the book Jack Nicholson kept intruding. I love the original The Stand, though King so clearly had no idea how to finish the novel.

Probably my favorite book from King. I also really liked the '79 mini-series... and to some extent even the '04 version.

It's a very fun, scary read. One of my favorite King novels. The original '79 miniseries may not be that faithful to the source material, but it's quite good, and is one of my favorite King adaptations. The scenes with the Glick boy at the window and the scenes with Barlow give me the chills.

Agreed, 'Salem's Lot is a great read and one of my favorite King books. Though it's rather obscure at this point and far from being considered a "King classic" (as far as I know) by hardcore King fans I've always been partial to The Dark Half as well as the Bachman books.

Yeah, the Bachman stuff all has a sort of hard-boiled feel that's exhilarating to read. Awesome stuff. Have you read Rage?

I have read every Bachman book except Blaze. The only one I really didn't like was Roadwork.

I remember finding Salem's lot scary when I first read it as a teen. I should re-read..... He also scared me to death in a book called "The Talisman" which he co-wrote with Peter Straub

Salem's Lot, Pet Sematary and Thinner are my favorite King books.
Favorite novellas, the Langoliers and the Mist. Fave short story is Crouch End and Jerusalem's Lot. Best short story collection overall is a tossup between Night Shift and Skeleton Crew.
