Amazing half the world saw this disaster coming years ago and never understood the signing in the first place.
Boston fans - I'm out of the loop as far as following the Sox - were there 'laziness' problems - or did he in fact have a 'weight problem' and just couldn't seem to keep it off. I actually know people like this in life. For women it's called 'PCOS'. I viewed fat people as lazy slobs looking for sympathy who had no will power before - but tend to flip flop back and forth after educating myself on the matter.
It's a debate that rages on.
If I recall even this spring training I was reading stories how he had got back into semi decent shape.

He was never all that to begin with. A good post season hitter. Another great Red Sox waste of money. Worst FA signing in team history, and that from the team that paid Carl Crawford a trillion for fuck all.

Or was he acquired via trade where they traded numerous prospects (I guess that's worse)? Just remember he was a monster for the Pads but then disappointed in the AL

Didn't he lead the AL in hits for his one full season? Yeah, they would have been better off keeping Anthony Russo but who knew? Gonzalez was the keeper in the salary dump that got the Sox out of the idiotic Crawford and Josh Beckett deals. Gave the team the cash to make the somewhat more minor deal that helped the 2013 run. And Ben Cherington kept prospects like Scrooge McDuck. Good thing he hung onto Blake Swihart, huh? Team had no use for Cole Hamels.

I could remember I was so excited to have Ben Revere from the Twins playing center. Would make a SportsCenter Top 10 catch once a week but would misjudge balls 90% of the time and had a lightweight popcorn arm even from shallow center trying to reach home plate gunning down a runner - it would bounce two times 3 feet to 3rd base. 'slap hitter'. hey - i appreciate slap hitters like the next guy - the key is to get on base - this cat must have had like 175 hits one year and 174 of them were 'slap' singles or 'texas leaugue bloopers'.

Panda just couldn't get into shape, you'd have to ask him why. I didn't like the signing then and being proven right is cold comfort in this case. A-Gon wasn't a bust, but the fans never embraced him because they expected more HRs. And he really lost the fans after his response to the epic collapse of 2011 was, "God didn't have it in the cards for us."
Sox have made some good moves, some bad ones in recent years. No different than any other team. If 2004 is the best story in the history of sports (and if you're a Red Sox fan, it is), 2012 -2014 is the strangest. Last to first to last. That 2013 team was not built to contend, it was a rebuilding year to get the franchise back on track. They brought in a bunch of 'character guys' instead of superstars and somehow made a run to the championship. Since then it almost feels like a rudderless organization who don't actually have a plan.
Nothing about this squad makes them feel like a contender to me despite being in first place-- but I'll take it over last place any day.

If they regarded him a cornerstone of the franchise they wouldn't have swapped him for prospects. I guess you can say the Red Sox were the true initiators of 'The Process' by swiping out your assets for additional assets.

Meh, they didn't swap him for prospects, unless you consider Rubby de la Rosa a prospect. Meh, it was a salary dump. Want Gonzalez, you take Beckett and Crawford. The Dodgers shit money, in case you didn't notice.

Want to scroll up where I question if the Gonzales / BoSox relationship was either a free agent signing or trade? You OK Bub? You seem extra 'pissy' - even for you - and that's an extra type of 'pissy' that's time of the month again Mary?
