I've sworn from the first time I heard of this show, it had to have played some part in the inspiration to make The A-team 17 years later. Elite commando team of 4 men, who likewise have some very ridiculous ways to defeat the bad guys, like blowing up tanks with molotov cocktails from ether bottles, etc.

I watched quite a few episodes last year.
I think of it as a '60s version of a video game, slam bag action with little interest in nuances of character.
One of the few exceptions to this is a favorite of mine: the one where Steve Franken (!) plays an American deserter who has set himself up as a wheeling & dealing desert kingpin. Franken gets to play the debonair heavy role usually played by somebody like Gerald Mohr.
I'm surprised TRP has never been revived as a feature.

I'm sure Hollywood will get to it sooner or later. Unfortunately they will most likely turn it into a buddy comedy with lots of bathroom humor.

Just found this on Netflix. Wow, plenty of action in this. I can't see them replicating it today for a similar program.

The Rat Patrol was removed from UK TV after protests about its "America won the war all on its own" viewpoint. Pity really, because it was very popular with non-bigots.

Mad magazine pointed out that a German officer whose convoy was shot to pieces every week by the same two jeeps would have been sent to the Eastern Front.

It's not without precedent: Raoul Walsh's 1945 Errol Flynn movie "Objective, Burma!" was withdrawn in the UK and not shown again for about 7 years because it gave the impression (again) that the US was the only country fighting in Burma. It may seem petty but some ex-army people take a dim few of this kind of thing (which still goes on today, see "Enigma"). I can see their point but it shouldn't be used to bash everything American.

Did the idiots realize that one of the members of the Rat Patrol was British? Did they notice that the show never claimed to be showing the entire war?

How exactly did "Objective Burma" give that impression? It's a movie about one unit of soldiers conducting one mission. No one ever said it was the entire war in Burma.

I think "U-571' deserved British criticism over Americanizing the entire war against the Axis, but not this one. British review - link

Interesting, I met actor Eric Braeden at a book signing in 2017. He said that the producers tried to get him to wear a monocle to look and be more menacing, he refused.

He OBVIOUSLY didn't want to be a COPY of Col. Klink. Although the producers of 'The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp' SHOULD'VE insisted on its star growing or wearing a mustache.
