I tried using the search function, but that did not work out well, so if a similar thread already excists, I will delete this and just copy what I wrote below into that one.I still buy DVDs and Blu-rays, but I prefer the DVD artwork far more often, while 70-75 percent of the Blu-rays (that I have bought) have some of the most awful artworks that I have ever seen, and while whats on the inside that really counts and all, I still would like to have the full package. A great film with a worthy looking artwork, to stand in my movie collection, and not some damn freak show that looks like the work of a drunk 90 year old who has just done his very first piece of "art" while trying to learn how to use Photoshop. There are a lot of victims out there, a lot. And I sometimes find myself being almost amazed at how gruesome the final result are, so anyway, I was thinking about starting this little "tribute" towards some of my favorite films that has gotten some the worst looking DVD/Blu-ray artwork/covers ever created. Just an example (Yeah, I know it is not a horror movie, but damn these new DVD/Blu-ray releases that comes out every now and then, are the stuff of nightmares): Groundhog Day (1993) is one of my favorite films, and every time a new DVD/Blu-ray comes out, it is one that looks worse than the other: Look at this monstrosity. I do not know what happened here, but from what I understand, Bill Murray has had several small "feuds" with his co-workers over the years, and he must have gotten on the wrong side of someone to have this getting the "thumbs up" while celebrating the film in 2008. It looks like his face is about to melt or that he is struck with a stroke or something. And then later on the fans are hit with another fine work: Oh yeah, a lot of hours of creativity has been poured into this one. Sadly, I have seen many similar classic films being treated this way. This is not as awful/freakish looking as the one above, but could they have done a lamer/duller re-work? The next time it gets a release, it will probably just be a white picture with the words, Bill Murray: Groundhog Day. So what are your picks for "favorite" great movies with horrible artwork?

If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. The Terminator (1984) is one of those classics that I still to this day have not yet come over a half-decent DVD/Blu-ray release with an ok looking artwork/cover. Why all the sudden changes,? The original movie poster/VHS cover was epic and probably the most badass Arnold ever have looked. Every now and then a "new" special, limited, extended, anniversary, definitive and so on, edition pops up, with one looking worse than another. It is almost fascinating how badly done they are, and that someone actually gets paid in the end of the day and goes along thinking: "Yeah, this looks ok". It's like they don't even try anymore, well at least the earliest releases back in 2001 seemd to try a little bit to look like the 1984 poster/VHS copy, but then somehwere along the way, they just gave up and this is how things turned out: The original 2001 DVD 2001 or 2002 DVD Ultimate edition 2009 DVD release 2009/2010 DVD release of Definitive edition Judging by the recent Blu-ray releases, such as the 2012 editions, they seem to be far better, but still none of them come close to the 1984 poster, and I think that I own around 8-10 different copies of Terminator, and the only one that features the iconic T-101 picture is my old VHS copy.

The original Police Academy VHS/DVD covers are classics. Funny, sexy and over-the-top, just as the films itself and when a friend of mine told me he had just bought the complete Blu-ray collection for absolute nothing, I decided to check it out at my local movie store, where I found it amusing how the usually way overpriced Blu-ray complete collection suddenly was much cheaper than the exact same DVD collection of the Police Academy series (only that the DVD one came with a more appealing artwork, but still one that seems to be edited). And then I realized it, this might be the reason to why the huge price drop, as the Blu-ray features one of the most cheaply done artwork I have ever seen. Compare that piece of shit above with these classics by Drew Struzan: Ok, the last one I am not sure is from an actualy VHS/DVD copy but still, it is sad to see such beautiful work go to waste, and be replaced with that horror show which is the Blu-ray complete collection from 2013.
