That stat about Rose getting 2700 hits after the age of 30 - - not even Ichiro has that. That stat is in the ballpark of Warren Spahn getting 277 wins after turning 30.

3000, yeah. 3500, maybe. 4257, doubtful. He averages 200 a season for the next 10, he's at 3100 at age 37. Yeah, if he had a Rose-ish career arc after 37, he might. But that's rare. And that's avoiding any injuries.
Run around in 2011 and say "Hey, that little short bastard in Houston has a real shot at 3000 hits" and you would get laughed at.

Altuve to me seems like Pedroia with greater superpowers.
I could see him nearing Jeter's numbers... I'd bet the Astros let him play as long as he can hit north of .280 with decent defence.

Truly amazing what Pete Rose did after the age of 30. I don't think anyone will ever get that many hits. Barring a catostrophic injury, Altuve will certainly reach 3000 hits, and very possibly will become one of top 5 hits leaders of all, but I don't think he will get to Rose.

doubt anyone will ever reach rose. with the influx of young talent and increase in njuries these days it's doubtful. plus, it seems there are fewer players that are consistent these days.

And fewer players need to keep the grind going due to the salaries they make today. Now if some player has a history of making poor bets . . .
