Makes zero sense to have it going up against two other major sports.

I prefer it now, indoor pro sports are better in the winter.

At least it's summer over here when they play.

Uhh, the NBA does play in the summer. And get this, it's called NBA Summer League.

Because summertime is for the WNBA, and the NBA doesn't want to compete with that ratings juggernaut!
Honestly though? I think it's because people are off vacationing, traveling, and doing other stuff during the summer. Attendance and TV ratings might be negatively impacted. They're not for baseball so much because baseball has always played a long summer-spanning schedule, and because going to a baseball game is an American pastime, the kind of thing you just do during the summer, even if you're traveling.
Seeing baseball games in different stadiums is a thing...going to an NBA arena just because is not really a thing.
Also, baseball is just the sport for lazy Saturday afternoons, dozing on the couch and chilling out.

it's not like the NBA is struggling. pretty much a billion upon billion dollar monopoly. but it is an interesting question when NHL/NBA teams have a 'scheduling conflict' or one team has a 'matinee' during a weekend afternoon at an area and the ice needs to be taken care of quickly in order for basketball to take place later at night. i was first going to propose hockey get switch to summer but am fearing i'd be tarred and feathered

They might have ice troubles, though.

(may have not been a WC - but it was an outdoor game)

Where's that 108 heat index, in Texas? What's the humidity there in weather like that? I've been in Washibgton, D.C. the last couple days and it's been mid-90s, but the humidity is what really makes it uncomfortable. Same with New York, we get a lot of humidity in the summer.

In Philly in between both - it's been unbearable for awhile - especially if you have to be outdoors. This is where you feel for the 'roofers', 'construction guys', 'landscapers' etc.........

I've been in D.C. in Jun and friend taking me to dinner marched me across town, nine blocks. I almost died.

Yes, Austin. Pretty bad humidity, though you get worse in Houston. Humidity often doesn't drop under 50%. Tomorrow won't be bad at 3 pm. 100 with 37% humidity for a 107 heat index. Overnight is typically 80 degrees with 90% humidity.

Have you seen that Bill Burr comedy special where he goes off on Oprah for saying "being a mother is the toughest job in the world"? He's like, "I thought coal miners had it bad. I thought it was bad being a roofer in the middle of August as a redhead. But no! These mothers are actually bending over at the waist to put DVDs in DVD players! It's unbelievable." @nxnwrocks It's been like that these past few days in DC...brutal, oppressive heat. I can't understand how people go running in that humidity, but more power to 'em. NJtoTX I've wanted to move to Texas, Florida or Louisiana for a few years now. I'd gladly take your heat and mild winters instead of freezing my balls off and having to wake up at 5:30 am in the middle of January just so I have enough time to shovel my car out and go to work. But I'm sure you know this if you came to Texas via NJ. Northeast winters are miserable.
