Or is it ESPN? All that I see on their website is NBA crap. Since the playoffs ended, its been NBA Draft, then NBA Summer League now there's 17,414 articles about the Cavaliers and some pouty pissant who's not getting enough attention. I know that there's not a lot going on in the sport's world now. But the NFL Training camps opened today. That's usually good for a mention. ESPN's big piece is that motormouth Stephen A. Smith yapping about LeBron's "feelings". I quick tour of other websites show they realize that there are other sports than Pro Basketball. And I realize I'm not a fan of the NBA, so an overabundance of NBA talk might irritate me.

I'm a pretty big fan, myself. And I'm not. I realize that and usually shy away from NBA judgment. But this year it seems ridiculous. I barely heard of the NBA Summer League before this year. Now it seems bigger than the NFL.

But a lot of the huge free agent and trade news created extra attention for the Association, too.

I like the NBA, but since I don't get cable, the only sport I really get to watch consistently is NFL football. I suppose I could get some sort of streaming service for other sports, but that isn't worth it to me.

Not with me. I'd rather watch Rugby League .. and that's saying something!

Re: Summer League No, it was not manufactured by ESPN. It got TV coverage a few years back on NBA network. Sports fans were given a chance to see this odd thing...and we loved it. You mean to tell me we get to watch the draft and then just a week later we get to see these top draft picks go against each other? Yeah! NFL draft we really have to wait years before we see those picks matchup against each other or even play. Summer League provides an incredible opportunity to see the top picks - the future of the NBA - battle each other instantly after being drafted. Did you see how many people were there and the buzz in that arena at Lonzo Ball's first game as a Laker? It was spectacular. It was must see sports TV for a sports fan. Hell, when we drafted Porzingis two years ago, no one in New York or in the USA had ever seen the guy play. That Summer League gave us all an instant look at the guy. (And we loved what we saw.) I've been watching Summer League for a number of years now. Yes, it has grown in coverage. It really is one of my favorite sports things of the calendar year. Unfortunately my dopey Knicks just do the Orlando summer league now. I love that small league, but it is so much more fun to see your guys do the Vegas one (we used to...Phil stopped that for some reason). And if you don't love sudden death overtime (Summer League does that), then you are in a coma. Sudden death OT...in basketball! Great stuff. Nothing like Summer League. Fun, informative, great competition. One of the best things in sports.

What else do they have to advertise other than Baseball and the World Series of Poker which is finished now anyway? I think that's the answer.

Is the NBA really that popular? Yes!
Obviously, NFL is the big thing here in USA. TV ratings, just general interest is off the charts for that league. (However, NFL did dip last season. The signs of its decline are rearing their ugly head.) NBA comes a distant second to NFL, but it is still massively popular.
Young kids - say, age ten to twenty - are really basketball mad. They love playing it, talking about it, watching it, video game play...young people love NBA more than any other sport. Just go to any park. B-ball courts are always packed, baseball fields, football fields...eh.
Do my friends and family my age love NBA? No. They did...but when it became a thug league after Jordan left, my age group dropped NBA. But it is coming back. The LeBron as a villain, the superteam of the Warriors does draw people. NBA Finals this year were best TV ratings in a long time. It's a great sport and run very well by its Commissioner. Stern and now Silver are fantastic. They recognize problems and stop them before they grow out of control (compare that to Goodell or Selig). NBA is in good hands with the administrators and the phenomela players. Plus the league is now drawing talent from the ever-growing foreign leagues. They don't care about soccer in China...they love basketball. That's good for NBA. The foreign players actually add so much to the game. Porzingis, Dirk, Gasols, Yao Ming...NBA has so much to draw from to keep the league great.

If baseball doesn't get its shit together and market the sport better, its going to be in trouble. THey are complacent because the TV money (from local contracts and Extra Innings) is mammoth. $80,000,000 per year for the Texas Rangers? That's amazing. We will see how that goes when the contracts come up for renewal. But the game has to reach out to African-Americans (even whites) or it will appeal to Hispanics only. It's difficult for me to understand because I come from an area that interest in the NBA is minimal. I don't see a lot of NBA apparel, even on younger people. I see 10 hats/shirts from non-local NCAA teams than any NBA team. another question, will the NBA salaries hurt the sports? I know the Salary Cap is a joke. And teams can't be raking in much local TV money. Can theams afford these deals? And what of the have-nots? Will clubs without superstars go down the drain?

People like talking about the NBA more than watching it in the regular season. Regular season college football games kill NBA regular season games in ratings.
NBA is for the US Weekly crowd. It's about personalities rather than the game itself.

Both the players and owners (teams) will be making out like bandits - the profit sharing is jaw dropping. Contracts for scrubs will be ludicrous. So there's your answer - Yes - it is that popular - the TV Ratings are astronomical and it is wildly popular. I enjoy baseball (when the Phils are good and there's a decent product to watch), college basketball and college football more than the NBA; however in my eyes - the NBA's product is tremendous just like the NFL.

Gee! Look! I can google too and the other side of the argument. This is from Forbes! Not 'Blogs' NBA Setting Records: link: NBA Finals Setting RecordsThe finals did set records - - and everything else sucked. Here are the fifty highest rated sporting events on television from January 1st to July 13. Of the top 15, twelve were NFL, one was college football, one was college basketball, and one was NBA. College basketball was found more in the top 50 than the NBA, 13 to 9. Gonzaga-Northwestern had more watchers than any NBA game in 2017 other than Warriors-Cavs in the finals. Imagine how lopsided this becomes when we get September through December - - every Sunday Night Football game will knock out all those other NBA games, including conference finals. So, yeah, I'll stay with what my sources say. www.sportsmediawatch.com/2017/07/halftime-most-watched-sporting-events-nfl-nba-cfb-playoff-ncaa-tournament/

NFL, College Football and College Basketball - 3 of my favorite sports are wildly popular on TV too. Gimme the Cowboys Vs. Patriots, I'm tuning in like most sports fans. Gimme Auburn Vs. Alabama - I'm tuning in like most sports fans, gimme Duke Vs. Carolina - I'm tuning in like most sports fans. These are 'events' - nowhere on near as much as the NBA during the regular season That doesn't mean the NBA is doing poorly. From that Forbes article - they're getting higher ratings now than the Jordan days - considered the best basketball player of All-Time when the game was arguably a lot more competitive.
