tristramshady is stupid.
The Finals ratings were phenomenal. Who gives a crap about any other ratings. There are other things that the league looks to as indicators of success.
Attendance -- solid throughout the league. Marketing -- go to any school, anywhere in America...check out what the kids are wearing on their feet, Jordans, KDs, LeBrons, Steph Currys....get the point? Media coverage -- a player in the NBA simply makes an announcement of where he will be playing next year...and the entire world stops to watch that on TV! The Decision... look it up, numbnuts. foreign interest -- soccer and then basketball. Not football, baseball, hockey...basketball is the world's second most popular sport.
NBA is in incredibly fine shape. And getting better every year. Look, I admit NBA was horrendous during those Thug Years (Iverson with his doo-rag, tattoos, and all around gangster style; Spreewell choking his coach; Artest and his posse beating up white people in the stands...); but the league made the right moves to clean that shit up and is in great shape now.

I think the sad problem is, it is NBA/NFL/NBA/NFL/NBA/NFL/MMA/NBA/NFL/NBA/NFL/MLB/MMA/Boxing/NBA/NFL/NBA/NFL
Now youll get a little mention of MMA (Especially the Conor/Floyd stuff) some of UFC (Jones V Cormier) and LOTS OF NFL/NBA.
Zeke did ____
Kyrie wants out
Houston got CP3
76ers and the process
Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady
LaVon Bell or Zeke
Lavar Ball did what!?
Man, baseball has fallen, not a fn peep. Dodgers and Astros are on a fn rampage, nothing. Man, after MLB went on strike and the steroid scandal, just nothing, it's like it doesnt fn exist. That's the issue. No one seems to care about baseball. It's all "Can Conor beat Floyd." "The latest Cowboy drama." 'Kyrie is sick of Lebron." "Can Brady win another ring or two?" Not a dang thing about baseball anymore.
I think that's the travesty. Baseball has become just so dang unpopular and NBA/NFL have just went leaps and bounds above it in popularity.
Baseball was Americans game, now it's football. Not only that, basketball is next in line. IDK IF BASEBALL is even 3rd in line, it might very well be UFC now.
I think the real problem is baseball seems out with ESPN and all sports channels.

You pretty much ended the thread. Basketball is massively popular and getting more so every year. It is now the second most popular sport in the world and profits are souring. Just look at the salaries now. They are directly related to profits. The NBA may just be the most popular sport in the next 20 years and I am a huge NFL fan.

Attendance - - That's what baseball says. Marketing - - Do you think people were going to be wearing cleats to school? People weren't wearing Joe Montana or Lawrence Taylor cleats when I was in school, so your point kind of sucks there. Media Coverage - - A player who doesn't have a job gets talked about having a job in the NFL (Colin Kaepernick, RG3, etc) and that leads off Sportscenter. NFL training camp gets more coverage than NBA regular season games. Foreign Interests - - ha ha ha. HA HA HA! Hey everybody, Marco says soccer is the world's greatest sport! America has fallen!!! I'll be looking for your cricket defense forthwith.

I live in China and I've never seen a Chinese person wearing football or baseball merchandise (outside of Yankee caps but that doesn't really count - people see it as simply an American brand rather than know it as a baseball team) but I HAVE seen a lot of Bulls, Cavs, Celtics, Warriors, Rockets gear (and a random San Jose Sharks jersey). Basketball is huge here. Hell, I remember them showing what seemed to be a compilation video of Tim Duncan's greatest plays on a public bus.

The ones I see want to be soccer stars - - those are the jerseys that outnumber everything out here (San Diego). That hasn't translated to television yet, though, in the United States.
