Such sad news about Bill Paxton. I have enjoyed him in so many films and TV series over the years, but my favorite performances are his vampire, Severen ("It's finger-lickin' good!"), in Kathryn Bigelow's gothic western NEAR DARK (1987) and his terrific turn as smalltown police chief Dale 'Hurricane' Dixon in Carl Franklin's classic neo-noir ONE FALSE MOVE (1992). And I loved him as the ambitious, good hearted, hugely likable but somewhat haunted (by his upbringing) polygamist Bill Henricksen in HBO's hit series BIG LOVE. Both a character actor and a leading man who appeared in blockbuster hits like TITANIC, ALIENS, TWISTER, TRUE LIES and APOLLO 13, as well as directing (and co-starring in) the acclaimed, and chilling, one-of-a-kind horror film FRAILTY, and playing Morgan Earp in the rousing western TOMBSTONE, he will be missed. What are some of your your favorite Bill Paxton performances.

I had just looked him up recently, and in his bio info was the fact he had Rheumatic Fever as a child, which can often lead to heart issues. My guess is that he was having heart surgery, leading to his passing.
Bill was always worth watching.

A real shock. Such an entertaining actor. R.I.P.

Yes, evidently he threw a clot or scab and had a stroke.
I'm still beside myself. I was unaware he had heart issues. This is such a tragic loss. I've enjoyed everything I've ever seen him in, but I think to date, my favourite role was in Twister.
RIP XX

Thanks for this tribute, JC.
You pretty much covered all my favorites, but if I had to choose just one as a VERY fave, I would select Aliens. He was so great in that film ! May he R.I.P.

Hi Boo - good to see you here.
Other favorite performances of Paxton's include those he gave in A SIMPLE PLAN, U-571, NIGHTCRAWLER, EDGE OF TOMORROW and - on TV - A BRIGHT SHINING LIE and HATFIELDS & McCOYS.

Thanks for sharing your favorite Bill Paxton performances fangirl1975. I've seen everything you mention except Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. - which is a big hit in my country and is screened on our ETV channel weekly at peak hour (plus late night repeats). But I am more a TEXAS RISING kinda guy than a Marvel kinda guy (although I do see all the marvel movies - and, while I haven't watched it yet, I own Marvel's JESSICA SIMPSON series on DVD) - and Bill was terrific as sam Houston in this rousing and underrated History Channel series.

RIP to Fort Worth, Texas' major contribution to the movies. What are we going to do now? Game over, man. Game over.

All I can add about Bill Paxton,
I was still working in the movie theater when 'WEIRD SCIENCE' came out(seen 30 or more times) and I knew he was going to be a 'Star' and go places. Have enjoyed him in every role that I have seen him in over the years, can't say that about very many actors, can you?
We are beginning to lack for actors who can so easily shift from light comedy to serious drama with so little effort or transition from type-casting as Bill Paxton could. That takes real talent.
We are lucky to be able to revisit him forever in some great films. Just watched Apollo 13 about three weeks ago, still awesome.

Thank you for your heartfelt contribution to this thread James (sorry, I mean eriknight). Bill Paxton was a fearless actor, and he sure had range; comedy, drama, action, western, war fillm, good guy, bad guy (and everything inbetween), he could do it all. For an example of his range check him out in full comedy mold as the weed-smoking island legend Coconut Pete in the wacky, funny, silly stoner flick CLUB DREAD and as the greedy, amoral bad guy in the explosive, violent, action-packed, Denzel Washington/Mark Wahlberg-starring action-comedy TWO GUNS. Wahlberg and Washington find laughs in all the right places, but Bill plays it straight and mean this time around and provides a perfect foil for the film's two stars.

Thanks jeffersoncody, its always great to see people who appreciate what fine actors like Bill Paxton have gifted to us over the years, 'Club Dread' / (would pair really well with Super-Troopers) and 'Two Guns' haven't been seen in quite awhile, this thread is a good resource for reminding me to draw up a list dedicated to Bill and spending a week or more watching him as he progresses as an actor on the big-screen over the years,,,that would be most enjoyable.
