He'll make back about 10 times that because he's James Cameron.

.....I think they're going to tank. Agreed. The first Avatar had no competition. And the fact that Cameron is afraid of competition is no more evident than in the fact he keeps pushing it back because more and more films that could compete with his precious baby keep getting made.

I actually enjoyed Avatar and still like it but it was a self contained story that won't be harmed by the absence of what is it now, 3 or 4 sequels? Cameron, you did it, do something else now.

While I do think 4 sequels to Avatar might be a bit "excessive" , I trust Cameron . I still get a laugh at people doubting him and his film making abilities . People were clowning on him for making Titanic (oops!) then taking a huge break to work on a film about big blue aliens (oops!) . Say what you want of him but he gets the butts in the seats (he did direct the two biggest mega blockbusters on the planet after all).
Avatar 2 will be a massive event . To say other wise would be foolish.

Meh. Didn't really care for the first film.
It had phenomenal 3D and special effects, but that's about it. It was pretty forgettable imo.
I just simply don't see these making as much money as the first. They're coming out 10+ years after the first, and the hype for a sequel has likely faded by now.
Most people have likely forgotten about the Avatar brand. It's just not as memorable as other franchises like Star Wars or Jurassic Park (both which had long periods in between sequels).
If they'd released these a few years after the original then maybe there would be some demand, but 10? I don't know, but time will tell....

Yes, he gets butts in seats because there are a lot of dull-witted people in this world. The original Avatar was only massive because it had no competition.

This is probably going to flop. Maybe the first two do well, but I can't see it truly thriving in today's modern movie climate.
I'm not excited at all. I just feel indifferent to all of this sequel stuff.

To just write them off as "dull witted people" is pretty inaccurate . And Avatar had plenty of competition (not to mention , tremendous legs at the box office). people loved it so much they went back for repeat viewings in IMAX 3D.

They were well-done visually, but in writing, they were as infantile as it comes. Earning Oscars is next to meaningless. Its just a way for the members of the academy to jerk each other off. It has NO competition.

Great FX achievement-I cannot take that away from Cameron--he pushed the envelope in visual effects even though I watched it in 2d on a tv screen. But the story was lame and forgettable.
I think Titanic's success was mostly due to globalization--selling the movie in new markets and promoting it heavily. Like the Harry Potter books/movies.

Since each of the sequels will make about a billion apiece this seems doable. Outrageous, but doable.
Its out there that the rights to Terminator return to him in 2018-2019. Now THAT is going to be OUTRAGEOUS!

I'm excited, though his constant moving his goal lines back because of technology gives me pause over whether they'll write a strong enough screenplay to support it.
I've always been more excited about future Avatars than I was future Star Wars'... because James f'n Cameron.
