Many of my favorites which I own and watch at least once a year are on there. Jacob's Ladder. Haven't seen it in years - maybe I need to give it another watch. It's nice to see The Mist, The Descent and Paranormal Activity make the list - 3 of my favorites - which get a lot of undeserved hate IMO and in my eyes don't get the recognition they deserve.

I can't say I've seen enough movies to be an authority on the subject, but I do believe that Martyrs definitely belongs on that list.
Also Jacob's Ladder is not a horror movie.

I was annoyed at Jacob's Ladder, I think it's overrated. Goodnight Mommy was terrible - the twist was obvious 10 minutes in.

Goodnight Mommy was terrible - the twist was obvious 10 minutes in. probably why i haven't watched it in eons and it's collecting dust. i get the twist ending is kind of cool ala The Sixth Sense - but if i recall i thought the movie sucked hard and it gets a ton of praise another $4.99 buy where i was like 'why not'.........

Interesting, but wow, nothing pre-1970's. Most of those films are entertaining, even really good and some choices I can see why, due to their impact/or influences. But the greatest horrors of all time? I guess you like what you like.

The Exorcist...personally not one of my faves but i get that its highly popular in these types of lists.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre...Of the main slasher franchises, easily my least favorite.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers...Good, but not one of my faves.
Alien...now we're cooking. One of my favorite films of all time.
The Shining...Ok.
The Thing...Absolutely yes.
Return of the Living Dead...Nice pick but not over other better zombie flicks.
Jacob's Ladder...n/a
Scream...My biggest problem is other slasher films arent already here.
The Blair Witch Project...no.
Audition...only seen bits and pieces. No pun intended.
The Descen...no. The scariest part was the woman getting stuck in the tunnel.
The Mist...Ok.
Paranormal Activity...no.
Martyrs...n/a
Let the Right One In ...Yes to the quality of the film...but i was never frightened watching it. Hard to be scared when you're rooting for the monster.
You're Next...no. Not a bad flick but doesnt belong here.
Goodnight Mommy n/a The Witch n/a Get Out n/a

It's hard to take a list like this seriously if it doesn't include pre-1970 pics.
A listing of the 20 greatest horror films must include at least one Universal monster film, probably either Frankenstein or The Bride of Frankenstein, but one could choose another one if desired. I personally prefer Dracula and The Wolf Mam to both of them.
Psycho is mandatory, as is Night of the Living Dead. Jaws and Halloween are required too. Add the original Nosferatu.
If this is a list of "greatest horror films," there needs to be more breadth. Merely excellent is not good enough. You have to weigh importance and influence.
Of course, this is probably more a list of films of horror films that would be appealing to today's youth rather than a true Top 20 greatest horror films.
Plus, I recognize that you can't produce a list like this and continually have 19 of the 20 spots pre-filled with true greats.

Nice list, thanks. Not heard of 'Goodnight Mommy' before but seen all the others.

Interesting, but wow, nothing pre-1970's. Horror movies weren't invented until 1973, you see.
