I quite like the opening and the final 25 minutes. Plus Bill's speech when covered in the American flag is truly special. Still, definitely not among my favorite Scorsese films.

This movie is an epic meditation on intangibility, at the same time it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three movies. Take the Tammany hall episode. In it Scorsese addresses the problem of abusive political authority. Butcher Bill's solo efforts to combat illegal aliens seem to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying in a narrower way, especially catchphrases like "Bug-eating Irish" and "A Jig doing a Jig".

I'll go 8/10 as well. The biggest detriment to the film to me is Cameron Diaz. I've gotten used to her on rewatch over the years but she's just miscast and in over her head in this flick, there's no way around it.

Saw it at the theater twice and have the DVD (never upgraded to the blu though). Diaz is the only issue.

7/10 - I agree, the last 25 minutes was by far the best part of the movie. Dicaprio hurt the movie and should not have been cast. Daniel Day Lewis was spectacular.

I really like this film. 9/10
Diaz is the weak link but other than that I thought it was a stellar revenge film featuring great set pieces and costumes . DDL was sensational as Bill the Butcher (one of my all time favorite characters ever put on screen)

Ugh, I just rewatched this last year and it hasn't held up. Definitely not my favorite Scorsese flick. I'd have to give it a 6/10 on the rewatch. Had it higher the first viewing.
