So, anybody has a guess how it will fare there? I know Japan is crazy about spider-man and also love high school age heroes, so it might do well I think.

Just looking Dr Strange, it made 16+ in Japan and Guardians 2 made 10+. I'd have to guess that Spidey will get near that 16 mark if not a little higher. What say you?

Those are good numbers for Western movies there but look at tasm and tasm 2. 39 million and 30 million there. And the Sam Raimi ones did 50 million plus there... More than the avengers. Japan loves Spider-Man more than any other Western super hero, I would say more than 16 million, but Japan is always an wild card lol

Maybe it does well over 20 then. You've made me curious now, and I wasn't even paying attention to it before.

For the other characters I don't think they will ever be big there but if anyone can break the Japan market is Spider-man. I have a friend there (big MCU fan also) and he says there are several showings already sold out at the toho multiplex in Tokyo for tomorrow, but that's just the experience of one person and I don't know if it means anything. He says it's huge there but perception is distorted, as we know, so don't take it literally.

And Hideo Kojima that developed the metal gear solid games liked the movie. I don't know his influence as a critic though.

So it made 7.1 million opening weekend, almost on par with the 7.4 from the first tasm that made 39 million so I think it will end up with 30+ there but like I said Japan is a wild card so who knows? (Tasm2 opened to 4.1 million and ended up with 30 million)

Even smash success in Japan can't redeem Homecoming's abysmal box office now.

If SMH is a flop what can you say about Man of steel? It made 309 in the US and 710 ww. Was that a flop? SMH is at 306 and 702 respectively. With China still to open, the rest of its run in us, Japan and the rest of the world still not over. For reference.
