I'm referring to the Jessica Alba movie. The trailer is scary indeed. which leads one to see in curiosity. The first half is good but the second goes cheesy. Thomas Jane is the magic in the movie. He gives a good performance and the flashbacks are the highlights of the film. It is worth seeing given the low budget of the movie.
5/10

It was pretty weak. The flashbacks were somewhat interesting but the contemporary story wasn't engaging at all, and I was annoyed that the flashbacks didn't commit to being either the old footage or a traditional flashback, and instead tried to be both at the same time and failed twice at once. I may have misheard part of the line, but there was moment where Thomas Jane's character says they're using video tapes no because they dont have to send them away to Kodak, but the characters are clearly watching this on a projector, and the movie attempts to make it look like an old reel of film. It always amazes me how these film professionals always fail at making old footage look legitimately old and instead opt for a cheap and crappy after effects filter, even in a studio produced movie like this one.
Overall pretty weak.

Eh, once an imdb rating is below 5.0 the results are seldom good.

I don't always follow the imdb ratings. But I honestly didn't feel this was worthy a 4. That is being too harsh. The film was building up good but fell apart with the present story. I have no issues with the flashbacks. I think some of those flashbacks were intended to be shown as normal scenes due to the duration.
