I think so. Even Return of the Jedi ISN'T in the same league as the two previous films, but was necessary so as to not end on a cliffhanger.

It's episodic Space Opera, a family drama set in that Galaxy far far away that can go on and on. The struggles of the Skywalker family and friends with each other and their faith set against the backdrop of interplanetary war.
I enjoy that for what it is. I want to know what happens next to that group and am not tired of hearing more. Sue me.

Personally, I think it should have. It was good to get a new generation involved with a new trilogy, and I wouldn't have been against it except for the fact that the new ones were Gawd-awful. Then to "reboot" it under Disney and JJ Abrams just feels like beating a dead horse with even worse plot, no originality, terrible acting, no spirit of the original series. Just a blatant money grab.

No. I don't think the prequels were anywhere near as bad as some people make out they are now and much like 'Batman Forever' which was very popular and critically praised here when it came out in 1995 and didn't get any hate until after 'Batman and Robin' people didn't turn on the prequels until AFTER they had been and gone and how anybody can call movies that made 1.027 billion, 649.4 million and 848.8 million at the Box Office flops is seriously disillusion. They weren't perfect but I don't think the rest of the 'Star Wars' movies were either and all had their flaws.

No, but they should have put WAY more effort and care into the half baked movies made afterward.

Before The Force Awakens came out, I would have said yes. However, the new storyline has my attention, and depending on how 8 and 9 turn out, I'm happy the franchise has been resurrected (though I have almost zero interest in any of the spinoff films).

I didn't vote due the bias nature of the selections, but my answer is ultimately no. The prequels themselves weren't good, but the expanded stories they started are. The Force Awakens was intriguing and I like the idea of spin off films if done right.

I vote yes, though I wouldn't have a decade ago. STAR WARS used to be special. It was a small story told on a grand scale, but with each new film, that scale becomes smaller and smaller. Under Disney, STAR WARS is just a cash machine. They'll suck the franchise dry until very little interest remains.

Better yet should Jedi have ended with a massive Ewok hunt? They were cannibals after all and had probably eaten thousands if not millions of sentient beings. There should be a Darth Ewok in the final film or at least in one of the spinoffs.

Should've ended with Revenge of the Sith.
Far as I'm concerned it did.

The Gary Kurtz plot concepts sounded better--that Jedi ends with Vader dead.
Then Luke has to rebuild the Jedi order and seeks the Other (not Leia) and it ends with him confronting the Emperor in episode 9.
I think they could have kept the general storyline of ROTJ by making the Emperor in it a clone--that the Emp sends out clones instead of risking his own life and also be more interesting than it is now with old Luke and what's her name.

I have to agree with the first poster who responded. Return of the Jedi wasn't even as good as the previous movies, but the story needed closure. The prequels and sequels are nothing like the original trilogy.
