Looks like every hacker in the world wants to Hack HBO. 2 episodes leaked and many important plot details have been revealed.
I really hope this doesn't happen with WestWorld, which I prefer on any day over GoT.
Why is that HBO has to undergo all this trouble of paying the hackers, spending huge amounts trying to prevent leaks for weeks through the show's run?
Since HBO is premium cable, number of live viewers doesn't really matter to them anyway.
They should do that in season 8. 3 episodes per week. Everything's done is 8 days.

Simple hypothesis: the people taking this decision are better informed than you. They know what they're doing.

Hacks are unknowable in practice and any ransom apparently has worked dollar wis, but it is not hurting them given the ratings.

And then on day 9 millions of people cancel HBO.
They want to drag it out to maintain subscribers.

And then on day 9 millions of people cancel HBO. They want to drag it out to maintain subscribers. Even at the current rate, they can barely keep the subscribers for two months. Or in case of season 8, just a month and a half. Obviously they should produce more shows or put a price on each episode.

Their subscriber base is so huge (On par with Netflix already), it doesn't even matter if there re only ones watching it for Game of Thrones. The additional subscribers simply help pay for the extra expense of the show.
