It's important to note that this is a rumor until Disney officially announces what the third standalone movie will be. I would be interested to know what the tone for a Obi-Wan standalone movie would be like. i.e. If they would go for a "look" more like the PT or the OT with the movie. My guess is that they would probably blend the two together like Rogue One did.
On the other hand, I'm completely skeptical about an Obi-Wan movie. Seriously...what the hell do you make a full length movie about with that character?! A 120 minute Kleenex commercial about how the desert drys out your nostrils? A 120 minutes of the old fossil watching a boy with his uncle/aunt?

This would be a great way to make a western/samurai movie.
I really hope they don't break down and change the character, though. He shouldn't have a wife or love interest, he shouldn't interact with Luke all that much (if at all), he shouldn't meet Vader again before A New Hope, he shouldn't be a totally different character from each of the first trilogies, etc.
My idea would be to have some kind of specialized Empirical Officer be sent to kill Obi-Wan and Boba Fett comes along to try and get the reward first. That could give us a lightsaber fight (although I don't think the Officer should be a force user) and plenty of blaster stuff and cat-and-mouse with Boba.
Edit: Oh yeah, and McGregor should definitely reprise his role. Don't fuck that up Disney.

An ObiWan Kenobi movie might work if the story could get off of Tattooine. But according to the link there's a Jabba the Hutt movie planned?!?
😳

I have a bad feeling about this...
Just kidding. I knew this was coming for a long time, just like a stand-alone Boba Fett film. I'm not really interested in a Jabba the Hutt film. Anyway, this is a lot of potential to be good.

Its time for Disney to branch out and depart from the comfort zone of the Original Trilogy time frame.
They could draw on a few of the basic setting ideas from the Expanded Universe (like KOTOR or Legacy) even if they want to avoid straight adaptations of those stories.

Or at least undertake characters that haven't already been established in the episodic films. I think that would be a good compromise at this point.

If they get Ewan, I'll check it out. If they recast, then no.

I'd love to see a SW movie that borrows heavily from KOTOR. There's so much there that's successful, from characters to storylines to it's balance of new/original vs. what it recycled from classic SW. But I doubt Disney will ever green light it. They've stuck to the OT in the anthology movies. And the originality has had a Disney feel in some respects. And KOTOR originality is nothing like that. It would've been nice though...

Disney wil only branch out if the OT era movies start making less then 800 million.
In other news, I wonder which British Brunet KK will cast in Obi-Wan : Another OT Era Story

In other news, I wonder which British Brunet KK will cast in Obi-Wan : Another OT Era Story It's an unfair criticism. Carry Fisher messed up her British accent in ANH horribly and Portman did not even try. This is why for the forseeable future we will get British Brunet KKs to make good on that. Say whatever you will about Daisy Ridleys "acting", but her starving-scavenger accent was authentically posh and British.
