A young boy named Bart has a surreal nightmare about his piano teacher. He yearns for a father figure. His mother is a young widow who, at least to Bart, seems to be falling under the spell of Dr. T. Bart falls asleep at the piano and has a colorful nightmarish dream about being a prisoner in Dr. T's castle, forced to play piano from morning to evening. Bart enlists the aid of a plumber to help his escape. Did I tell you the story was co-written by Dr. Seuss? His influence is clear as you watch the movie. All in all, I enjoyed it. There is something to be said for imagination, and this movie is a fine example of what a young boy will dream about when he is under "duress". The sets really stand out, as do the costumes. Have any of you ever seen this movie before?

Seen it. Very Seuss. Decent movie, not really my cuppa. But I had to see it since it's such an old , surreal movie.

I've seen it and I totally love it. I first saw it as a child and it stuck with me ever since. When I was a kid, I drew pictures based on the sets and the characters. Dr. Seuss was a true genius and this is one of his best works. A wonderful family movie.

Yes; IMO, it has a strong homophobic vibe.

I have seen it several times and I love it. Spectacular design and wonderful songs especially The Dungeon Song, Because We're Kids and Do-Mi Do Duds.

It's possibly one of those "love it or hate it" films.
I watched it to see Hans Conreid and because I like Dr. Seuss.
Sadly, I am in the "hate it" group on this one. (BIG THUMB DOWN)
Interesting concept but not a fan of kids in cages or kids in jeopardy in a "family fantasy" picture.

Seen it and remember the Seuss-like weirdness but not much else about it.

Have any of you ever seen this movie before? The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T (1953) Surprisingly I have not heard of or seen this one before but from this write-up it appears to look like a unique & enjoyable film too . Thanks so much pippinmaniac for this movie recommendation and your subject post .
