It's back-to-school time! With that in mind, what are some of your favorite horror films that take place on a school campus? Classics are fine, but if you have any lesser-known favorites, they're especially welcome. Think of this as a recommend thread.
I'll start with PROM NIGHT (1980). Though I don't really understand the objective of "The Killers are Coming" game, the opening is still nearly perfect. It's very erie and atmospheric. Too bad the rest of the film doesn't sustain the atmosphere.
I find PROM NIGHT interesting because it's a lesser successful pre-FRIDAY THE 13th cash-in of HALLOWEEN. Like HALLOWEEN, it's focus is on three young girls preparing for an event at night, this time prom and sex rather than babysitting and sex.
There isn't as much emphasis on gore either (though there is some), and the final girl isn't well-fleshed out. But it's still a treat to watch the three main characters prepare for prom in the early '80s.
If you be only seen it on the old DVD that was hard to see, look for the Synapse Blu-Ray, which lightens some of the darker scenes. Those shots have a lot of distortion, but you can at least see what's going on.

This doesn't really count as a horror film, but I'll say Class Of 1984.

I think Class of 1984 can count as horror. It doesn't start out as horror, but it turns into a kind of slasher film late in its run time. Good pick! Thanks for responding.

Carrie is the obvious pick. I also love the absolutely bonkers Slaughter High.

Carrie is the obvious pick. I also love the absolutely bonkers Slaughter High. I was thinking that something like HELL HIGH, SLAUGHTER HIGH, CUTTING CLASS, or POPCORN were obvious choices, but you're right that CARRIE is the better-known of all the films.

I guess Massacre at Central High (1976) may fit in, as well as Trick or Treat (1986), and for the more goofy ones, Ghoulies Goes to College (1991).

Keeps your attention the whole way thru.

I haven't seen THE FACULTY in quite some time, but I remember enjoying it quite a bit.

I second Prom Night. But there is plenty of other fun high school / college horror flicks that I really like: - Slaughter High (1986) - Troma's Class of Nuke'Em High (1986) - two underrated 1989 movies: Night Visitor and an anthology After Midnight - Urban Legend (1998) - The Gallows (2015)
