Here in Australia, the first ever convention I went to was one called the Supanova Convention (which I hadn’t even been aware of previously, and therefore was rather late to the game with attending – who knows how many actors I would’ve liked to have met had been to previous conventions before I ever learned they existed).
Anyway, the first one I attended was to meet Summer Glau from
Angel and
Firefly (I know it must’ve been back when
Serenity had just come out, because I remember the posters for the movie displayed behind her). This was back when you just paid the entry fee and that encompassed *everything* - getting autographs from as many guests as you wanted, getting photos with them (which you could take yourself and didn’t have to pay to get ‘professional’ ones done), etc, whereas now you’re paying to just get in the door, then separately for autographs, for photos and paying for each person you want to get those with. It’s ridiculous now.
Summer Glau was quite lovely, and enjoyed the portrait I’d drawn for her and framed, which I gave to her. The next BtVS/AtS-related actress I met was Amber Benson, who I also presented with a portrait I’d drawn and framed. Adam Busch was right beside her, and she showed the portrait I’d drawn of her to him – they both seemed to like it. Amber was very nice, and she said how much fun she’d had playing a vampire of
Supernatural when I mentioned that I really liked her in that role as well as Tara.
The last BtVS-related actress I met (which was a few years back now) was Clare Kramer, who I’d been so eager to meet because Glory was one of my faves. Every good thing that people have said about meeting her is completely/totally true. She was absolutely the friendliest person I’ve met thus far, easy to talk to, always smiling, never treating it like it was a chore or that she didn't want to be there. A very lovely person indeed.
Also, the convention people had rules by this stage that you couldn’t take photos of the guests with your own cameras, you had to pay to get ‘professional’ photos taken with a guest...but Clare didn’t care about that, she encouraged me to take photos of her holding the framed portrait I’d drawn of her, and allowed the person I’d come to the convention with to take a photo of me with her holding my drawing of her – which I was so grateful for (as those ‘professional’ photos aren’t cheap...nor are the autographs).
