Thought I break down some of the shots in the trailer to have a civil discussion about.
I feel like the hammering into the ground shots are just made for the trailer, tho I could be wrong and maybe its taking a page from John Wick and he has some weapons somewhere hidden in concrete.
So clearly we're going to see some flashbacks of Frank's time in the service. This looks like he's in Afghanistan because the guy he shoots and the second guy as well, are wearing a Turban, so he's most likely a Taliban fighter. I am curious about the setting tho there, as its all dark and blue. I've never seen a movie or tv show set in the Middle East with this color scheme before, so I'm curious if it is indeed in the Middle East or he'll be going up against terrorists in New York.
Looks like it's a home invasion type scene. Interesting get up the burglar is wearing. Obviously the producers are probably primarily taking aspects from the Punisher MAX series as they're the most grounded, brutal and grittiest interpretation, but I wonder if they're taking from some of the classic 80s and 90s stories as well. There's an one-shot story from the 80s called the "Intruder" where Frank was on a stake-out of a Medellin cartel boss and while watching the drug-lord’s home he sees a team of armed raiders burst into the house next door who kill all the occupants. It was a kinda crazy storyline. The villain was Navy colonel with who ran an ultra-right wing, anti-communist religious group tasked with assassinating drug-runners, left-wingers and communists. Obviously this storyline was written at the height of the Cold War, but I'm wondering if Netflix is doing a modern update of the storyline. The series has 13 episodes, so it can't all be about just one villain and just about all the Netflix series too had kinda two or three separate storylines. But that's just my take on it.
A couple different possibilities with what's going on in this scene. It could be another flashback during Frank's time in the service. From what we know, this version we have of Jigsaw is a friend of Frank and they were in the special forces. Could be a torture/interrogation type scene. But going off from that, they could be Jigsaw's men. In this series, Jigsaw is apparently a mercenary and a Private Military contractor. Another possibility though is that the soldiers have the same get-up with the uniform and ski mask as the home invasion burglar. In the Intruder storyline, the group do have a hideout and everything, so maybe this is another part of it. I wonder tho if Jigsaw is kinda the updated version of the Intruder storyline by making him a PMC. I will say I wasn't too excited about Jigsaw being Frank's former friend and in the Special Forces, but now I'm excited about it because is the Mafia really relevant anymore these days? Plus, it does give Frank a more difficult foil and challenge, not just being his former friend, but also a physical challenge as well as they're probably equally trained by the military.
Obviously the guy interrogating the one strung up. At least I think it might be. No idea who it may be tho.
So obviously a flash back of Frank's time in the service. Probably his team. The guy Frank is assaulting is probably Rawlins, played by Paul Schulze, or as I know him as, Ryan Chappelle from 24. He's a good actor and I'm really excited to see him in this.
So obviously Frank's burning the "skull" armor. As to why is up to debate. I'm wondering maybe Frank will having kind a breaking point and try to quit the killing. That's my guess. He obviously does get a new armor with a new skull logo a little bit bigger but its a nice homage/update of the classic Punisher costume instead of the shirt and trench coat. We'll probably get different variations of Frank's outfit from over the years in the comics, in the series, which will be cool.
These are the shots that really stood out to me. Super pumped tho! You guys are welcomed to contribute, offer your own insights/opinion about what's going on. When we get another trailer, we'll probably have a clearer picture what the series will be about
