Even the most talented actors can't make chicken salad out of chickenfeed.
3 examples: Nightmare on Elm Street 2010 remake. Haunting 1999. The Swarm.

Dreamcatcher has to be more guilty of this than any horror movie and one of the worst culprits of movies in general. Great cast, based on a decent Stephen King novel, legendary screenwrter and great director and it sucks big time.
Cast: Morgan Freeman
Thomas Jane
Jason Lee
Damian Lewis
Timothy Olyphant
Tom Sizemore
Donnie Wahlberg
Director: Lawrence Kasdan
Screenwriter: William Goldman
With numerous Oscar nominees and winners how was this movie such a pile of shit?

Oculus bothered me because the screenwriter slacked off on researching the symptoms of parvovirus. For me as an aspiring veterinary technician this was the picture's deadly sin.

Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994).
Sorry. I wanted to like it, but just didn't.

For some reason, all of my first picks are from 1998.
Phantoms. Affleck, Liev Schrieber, and Rose McGowan alone are too good for this, but Peter O'Toole?!
Sphere. Dustin Hoffman, Samuel L. Jackson, Liev Schrieber again, post-Casino Sharon Stone, Queen Latifa, the guy from ET.
Then my mind keeps going to Urban Legend, even though the cast comprises Alicia Witt, Rebecca Gayheart, and Tara Reid. But on the other hand, you have Jared Leto, Michael Rosenbaum, Robert Englund, Brad Dourif, Loretta Devine, Danielle Harris, etc.

Phantoms. Affleck, Liev Schrieber, and Rose McGowan alone are too good for this, but Peter O'Toole?! The first Koontz novel I ever read, truly terrifying. I didn't hate the movie, but it was so average and none of the terror made it to the screen. Weird seeing Peter O'Toole in a horror movie too.

The Haunting (1999) remake.
The Exorcist II: the Heretic (1977) had Richard Burton, Linda Blair, James Earl Jones, Paul Henried, Louise Fletcher, and Max von Sydow.
