...iconic is an understatement. Read a little sci fi before you pass judgement. These writers put their imaginations on display in the wonderful works which became more than iconic to the true fan. Read a couple of Hugo award winning sci fi novels and you will see what I mean...

I came across a quote in an 80s book on sci-fi I was reading in the library and I am pretty sure it was him speaking-saying that the current filmmaking generation (Joe Dante, Spuelberg, Lucas) were weaned on comics and tv unlike the generation previous which was influenced by books and theater. Spielberg said something like that when he was given a Thalberg award in 86--I assume he saw the same book. Wish I could remember the name of it.
Aldiss is featured in a doc on Wells' War of the Worlds and I like how enthusiastic he got about the story's germ ending. "Bloody brilliant!"
