How would a 20 something who was in an horrific plane crash in which he saw his mother sucked out of the plane and waited with his dead father's body until he was adopted and raised by monks for over a decade, act in modern society?
Marvel didn't just give you a badass Iron Fist just because, they answered that question, and the promise is that not only will Danny's maturity become a strong character growth arc in future series, but that it will undoubtedly coincide with his increasing skill with the use of his chi. And then we will get the true Iron Fist, after it has been earned and the character's trauma fully explored and dealt with. Gao even says he's like a child hoping to hold his mother's hand again. The other character all tell you that's what's happening too.
This is an impressive move, to really delve deep into who he is and what a character in that position would really be like. He'd be completed out of his element in New York, and he would have severe emotional damage that would not have gone away until he faced it.
I actually can't wait until they play this arc out, and while I agree, I want the real Iron First, I'm enjoying the build up, I think it's the more clever character arc, and sometimes patience with these things is a virtue. He's going to wind up with a really deep character arc and it's awesome.

And he still can't fight. Reminds me everytime of the American Ninja film series.

Did anyone else laugh when Luke told him to check his privilege?

Did anyone else laugh when Luke told him to check his privilege? No, because he was making an excuse for a kid who took a job covering up dead bodies and somehow Danny is "privileged" for pointing out how bad it is to join the Hand? It just reminded me of Luke forgetting to check his ghetto by not calling the police in his own series when his witness was about to die. The dude ran around the entire episode avoiding the police, letting the guy die, and then the cops found him at the end anyway, all because of the ridiculous 'don't call the cops' thing.

To the contrary my brother, who trained briefly in the army in a variety of fighting styles, was pointing out which styles he was using as he used them, and we know Finn Jones has undergone training in preparation, so actually I think he's doing just fine.
Danny is going to have a major character arc where he matures and accesses his entire power.

And he still can't fight. Reminds me everytime of the American Ninja film series. He actually had better fight scenes and moves than Daredevil in the Defenders. His kicks were cleaner and delivered with more power, his punches were crisper and his combinations were a bit more complex. Don't get me wrong, Daredevil still looked awesome, but Ironfist had a much cleaner and complex fighting style. It's a huge upgrade from his own series where he looked like a Yoga teach doing dance moves.

They're set on hating him so they don't see how nicely he's done in the Defenders. Hate on him as much as you want on his own show, because at least that show did have issues on his portrayal, but he was very good in Defenders. Or at least no worse than Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.

I think they've done pretty solid honestly. A lot of it is simply people wanted him fully powered up and they think he looks weak. But that has been done on purpose as part of a character arc, so I disregard all complaints in that regard.

I agree, I wasn't defending Luke, I just thought it was a laughable cringey moment. Wasn't as bad as the stuff in the current terrible comics. "Holy menstruation!"

Did anyone else laugh when Luke told him to check his privilege? I was actually irritated by that scene. Cage pulling the racial card was a low blow and was a cheap way to win an argument where Danny actually had the logical and moral advantage. And to make it worse, the show portrayed it in such a way to show that Cage was right and Danny was wrong.
