I asked this a couple of times on IMDB without success. I think now I was wrong on a crucial point.
OK, some historical background. In the 1870s the Frenchman Marquis de Rays conned several hundred northern Italians to set sail to settle a tropical paradise on the island of new Ireland in the Bismarck Archipelago. They were dumped in a mosquito infested swamp and after 6 months the survivors were rescued and taken to Sydney where many settled successfully in my region.
The film is about the sea voyage and attempted settlement on New Ireland and ends where the survivors are rescued out of the swamp. It was something I saw on late night TV before I knew about the actual expeditions connection with my home town.
The film is in colour and I thought it was an English language production but now I think more likely a French or Spanish production from the 1970s. I suspect it also may be a fictionalised story with different character names as the story of the Marquis de Rays is fairly well known but I can find no mention of the film.

I wish I knew, so far Google has been of NO help.

IMDb has also been of NO help. Ye, I think the film must not mention the Marquis de Rays, and I suspect it was made by a relatively unknown production house somewhere in Europe.

Doesn't ring a bell. Try a keyword search Ireland, expedition, Sydney, etc... on links below.
