It was pretty much what I expected it to be: bad. Why do people still love Bruce Timm so much? I'm sorry, but the guy is frankly a massive pervert whose work reeks of misogyny.. The movie was about as lowbrow as it gets.
The story was nonexistent and was basically just an excuse to cash in on a character who was frankly never good to begin with. What is the appeal of Harley Quinn as a character? She's a blatantly misogynistic and obnoxious concept for a character who has no reason to exist, and the film didn't do anything interesting with her, unless you find sex jokes, ass shots, and fart jokes to be intriguing.
The movie felt like it was written by a bunch of 13 year olds. It was just...ugh.

As for why he's praised, to be fair he did give us the animated series, which is fantastic!

Harley Quinn and TKJ are examples of that.

How do you define misongynistic?

How do you define misongynistic? Easy. Bruce Timm's work has a tendency not only to objectify women, but also to portray them as being the kinds of characters whose lives revolve almost exclusively around men and sex. Harley Quinn is a major example of this. She's a character whose entire purpose revolves around the Joker, whose backstory involves having sex with college professors to get a PhD. You can call me a "SJW" all you want, but the truth is, Bruce Timm has a lousy track record when it comes to female characters. I'm not saying that makes him a misogynist himself, but it does hurt his skills as a writer. TKJ was rightfully torn apart precisely for how sexist it was in regards to Batgirl. Also, the DCAU version of Wonder Woman was frankly too hotheaded and violent for a character whose supposed to be compassionate and level-headed. I'm sure Bruce Timm isn't a bad person, but I don't think he's a very good writer, and I wish people would stop treating him like some sort of deity just because he helped make B:TAS.

How the might have fallen, Bruce Timm once seemed like a spiritual successor to Max Fleischer but it turns out we all had too high of expectations in the long run.

I hated the out of place sex scene in The Killing Joke and to top it off before hand Batman is all like "that criminal objectified you" and in the next scene he's grabbing Batgirl add and banging her. I haven't seen the new one, but ive seen the clip of Nightwing being tied to a bed with Harley in her underwear and thought it was weird to put in a animated movie.

Honestly, I think Bruce Timm's big problem these days is that he can't seem to resist using his work as an excuse to depict some of his kinky fantasies. That's not a stab against Timm as a person, but it really hurts his abilities as a writer and producer.

I skipped it based on the voice acting of Harley alone. I remember seeing a trailer of it and the voice just didn't work for me. Nothing against Melissa Rauch but for me she was just horribly miscast judging by the trailer I saw.
