Anyone else feel jipped that we had to wait for New Millennium to arrive before we got any truly good Star Wars animated shows? Even as I was a kid, I could never figure out why we didn't just have a Star Wars cartoon about the Rebel Alliance or The Old Republic, or new Jedi Order Luke founded. I'm a child of the 90s, by the way, and we had some excellent animated shows roughly as dark as any of the films of the original trilogy. Batman: The Animated Series, Gargoyles, The Pirates of Dark Water, Sonic SatAM, Superman, The Animated Series, and some others. It never made any sense for there not to be a Star Wars cartoon and frankly it still doesn't? Anyone else share this opinion?

The 90's had to have been the driest spell for Star Wars. All the stuff until Lucas announced his prequels was 3rd party authors, and reissues of old toys. George had lost interest in doing too much of anything Star Wars related after his divorce until the mid 90's when he started talking about the prequels. So yes, I could see a kid growing up in the 90's who was a Star Wars fan from the old movies and EU books, but nothing else being out there, that you would absolutely feel jipped. Here's a neat article of the state of the brand at the time: Star Wars in the 90's

Seems like like a colossal shame to sit on a goldmine like that and not do anything with it.
Awesome, I am definitely reading that article.

I lived shadows of the empire like a movie release. Heir to the empire was an awakening:) The EU was starting and I was an happy camper. Never missed Animation much as i was in my 20's by then. The Hype for TPM was of the charts... And the rest is history...

Great article. Really took me back to how fun Star Wars was back then. The only thing they seemed to have missed is that the 90s were really the first time that lightsaber toys actually attempted to match the prop designs. Previously, we pretty much got flashlights with plastic tubes on them....
