I only have a passing knowledge of many of these kinds of shows but there are two that stood out as rather fascinating. One was a Twilight Zone episode where the planet has been knocked out of its orbit and is heading towards the sun, the planet growing hotter and hotter then at the end of the episode, the woman wakes up and it was all a dream because in reality the planet is actually heading away from the sun and slowly freezing. Cue theme tune.
The other was (I believe) an Alfred Hitchcock presents episode where a woman in prison befriends the janitor. He is also responsible for dealing with the dead bodies of prisoners who die and together they hatch a plan for the woman to escape. She waits for another prisoner to die, then sneaks into her coffin and waits for the gravedigger to come and dig her out. She waits and waits eventually getting nervous about why he hasn't arrived. Out of curiosity, she lights a match to seen the who the female prisoner is but sees... the dead gravedigger.
Any favourites or similar type plots (from anywhere)?

I've never seen the second one 'AHP' or whatever...but the first is "The Midnight Sun" my favorite episode of 'TTZ'. My favorite episode of 'TOL' is "OBIT". It's still VERY relevant today.

i remember that alfred hitchcock from when i was a kid. it was great. tim burton did one like that for alfred hitchcock i think where they burried a guy at the beach and couldn't find him once the tide rolled in? the twilight zone with pig face lady who gets plastic surgery kind of reminds me of that one too. i'll always remember a ray bradbury or something where the little girl's parents kept fighting and all she wanted to do was to go to the people zoo. so they finally take her.. i haven't seen that show or episode in ages, it was from the 80's.

The Midnight Sun blew me away when I first saw it, the twist was amazing. It's easily one of my favorite episodes of the series.
It's a Good Life is also a great, if a little disturbing, episode of the Twilight Zone.

It's a good life was one of my top favorites. It's just evil and scary.

Oh, I thought you were asking for ideas/concepts for TZ/OL-type plots… I’ve thought of a few of those over the years…

It's a cookbook!
The one that always bugged me the most is there the guy wakes up and no one knows who he is--and then he remembers an old photo that only he knew about-and he finds it but then when he shows it to others, it vanishes. Then he wakes up realizing it was a nightmare, except now he doesn't recognize his wife!

My favorite "Twilight Zone" twist ending was actually from the revival series in the 80's. "Button, Button," based on a short story by Richard Matheson (remade as the feature 'The Box' in 2009), begins with a man approaching a couple at their house and giving them a box with a button on it. He tells the couple that if they push the button, they will receive a large sum of money, but someone they don't even know will die somewhere. The couple debate the sanity and morality of it and eventually the wife decides to press the button. The man returns and gives them their money. The couple ask what happens next and the man replies that he will give the box to someone else. Someone they don't even know.

I am curiously writing a twilight zo esque story right now.

The Herald Erjen We were discussing the Twilight Zone on the other board. Which are your favourite episodes, sir? Some of my favourite ones are: Time Enough at Last The Purple Testament Dust The Big Tall Wish I liked all of those. I also liked "Third from the Sun" for its suspense. "The Dummy" was a good one too. It would be easier to list the episodes I didn't like.

OK, I’ll bite at the bit, The Herald Erjen. What episodes don’t you like? The episode that tops the list for me is “It’s a Good Life.” Oh, I know it’s supposed to be mean-spirited, but I think it’s just unrelentingly nasty and even kind of sleazy-looking. Most TZs have meaning, morality, purpose—“It’s a Good Life” is just mean. But I know that opinion’s pretty unusual.

I would have to think hard, but the first one that comes to mind is the one with Jesse White as the bumbling angel trying to help Carol Burnett. It sucked. If I remember correctly it was intended to be a spinoff. Can't even remember the title now, but I think it was "Cavender is Coming" or something like that. Sometimes when TZ tried for comedy it just didn't work.

Yes, it’s “Cavender is Coming.” It doesn’t work, but there are a few good comedy TZs—“A World of His Own” and “Once Upon a Time” come to mind.

He seemed to be artificial character. I am sorry i feel that way for Mr.Bevis but that's how I feel.
