Because that's exactly what I have heard from somewhere else. IN so far as its basically just this: You got your good guys and your bad guys. You've got stormtroopers and lightsabers and that's pretty much all they can do with it. And if they tried to do anything else with it, then it wouldn't be star wars. Do you think it is a limited universe (the star wars universe) that they can't do much with? For a franchise that was bought for like a billion dollars, they can't do a whole lot with it. Ya sure the star wars universe FEELS so expansive but its actually quite the opposite. Not that I don't like the new star wars obviously.

I don't think it's limited unless the people who make the films deliberately make them limited. I think movies like Jurassic Park are more limited. How many times can you do a movie where dinos get loose in a park, chase humans, etc. before it becomes repetitive and formulaic?

This is why I liked "Rogue One" and didn't like "Force Awakens" nearly as much as I wanted to.
The universe is big enough to take on it from some different angles. "Rogue One" for example really doesn't deal with the Jedi/force stuff much at all and seems more like it focuses on the military aspect of what's going on. Pretty sure the Emperor was never mentioned or appeared. That sort of thing made it work.
There were MS-DOS PC flight sims ("Tie Fighter") that I remember as a kid. They follow the path of an Imperial pilot who's more or less just doing his job...mostly completely removed from any events in the movies. Even though it was a simple story, I found it more interesting than "Force Awakens."
Hell, I'm pretty sure I'd love a Kevin Smith movie about two clerks at the Death Star cafeteria who are apathetic to the war and are trying to scam their HMO or something.

As a fan of both the Clone Wars series and Star Wars Rebels, I've seen just how expansive and fascinating this universe can be. The prequels failed due to poor film making, but the mythology and stories they started have been quite fantastic. I feel like the above shows don't get brought up enough when discussing Star Wars outside of the OT.

You and your little friend seem either to be completely ignorant of how expansive and rich the Star Wars mythology is, or you guys are trolling.

It's limited. The appeal of Star Wars was A grade FX put into a B grade sci-fi story. It had the advantage in the 80s-but by the 90s too many other films were stealing the innovations so it couldnt compete. Lucas waited too long for the prequels and really should have done the sequels first to take advantage of actor ages.
With the diversity SJW BS of Disney corp it will keep getting further away from old fashioned adventure. I am curious what Ron Howard does since he *may* have a little more clout to do things he wants to do, but he doesn't strike me as the right director for a space pirate film.

Or maybe it isn't limited, but your mind certainly is.

TFA was used as a dna reset. If TLJ sticks to the rails we've known, than yes, Disney is keeping it limited.
I for one hope SW goes off those rails & opens up our imaginations.
