I love all of his work. The Raven is brilliant poetry. For a story, I like (in no order) "The Tell Tale Heart" - "Masque of the Red Death" - "Descent Into the Maelstrom"....many many others...

Poe? Offhand I'd say "The Fall of the House of Usher"--a conventional choice, perhaps, but the atmosphere is superbly evoked--but there are so many brilliant ones: "The Pit and the Pendulum," "The Gold-Bug," "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar," "The Oblong Box," "William Wilson"...

As a kid I got a Halloween CD with 4 stories on it, The Pit and the Pendulum, The Raven, The Tell-Tale Heart, and the Murders in the Rue Morgue. My attention span was able to pay attention to the latter 2, never made it through the others, but of them, The Telltale Heart was my favorite.

"In the name of God, Montresor!"
That one lends itself to easy dramatization. I'd have to reflect a bit. I think that as something only read and not performed I may have to go with the Black Cat.

Probably The Tell-Tale Heart, but I like The Purloined Letter and Murders in the Rue Morgue too. I really dislike his prose, it's laborious to saw through.

personally I can't figure out any meaning of any poe story, they just all go over my head. I'm sorry, my crocodile brain just can't figure out what he's on about.
