I used to argue with movie loving friends (when I had friends) all the time.
I'm a big fan of Pocketful of Miracles. Great Story, GREAT cast, very funny, but always brings a tear to my eye.
Any opinions?

Any opinions? the original clocked in at a tidy 88 minutes, while the overblown remake dragged on for 136 minutes. Too bad -- I'm a big fan of both Capra and Ford.

And just so you know, I'm a big fan of the movies from the 30s and 40s But I don't think that shorter is necessarily better. Also, I'm a big fan of Glenn Ford and Bette Davis. But the real reason I like Pocketful better is Peter Falk's best performance of his career as Joy boy, and Thomas Mitchell's great final role as the Judge. There was another major film in 1951 with a character named Joyboy. Remember what it was?

1951? There was a 'Joyboy' in the Jets gang in 1961's WEST SIDE STORY.Also, Rod Steiger was 'Mr. Joyboy' in THE LOVED ONE in 1965.
