Horror of Dracula is my favorite. Both Nosferatu films and the Legosi version are also superior. I do like Oldman's performance, but not much else.

Frank Finlay made a great Van Helsing I thought. As far as I am concerned, the Top 2 Best Van Helsing's are "Edward Van Sloan" and "Anthony Hopkins".

Terrible. The best version remains the BBC 1977 one with Louis Jourdan--a shame that a) they didnt shoot it on film and b) couldnt get Christopher Lee to come back one more time. never even heard of that one, here it is on youtube, might watch it this weekend Andromeda from Clash of the Titans as Mina? Well, I'll be damned.

I've only seen "Nosferatu", "van Helsing" and "Bram Stoker's Dracula" , as I'm not into Dracula films. I liked Coppola's film the most, especially because of Oldman's overwhelming performance.

I consider it the best Dracula movie.
The directing is inconsistant and Reeves and Ryder are terrible but it still has a classic story, great production design, great atmosphere, an effective love story, a terrifying score, Oldman is intensely creepy and often brillaint, it has a handful of truly frightening moments throughout and Tom Waitts is awesome as Renfield.
7/10

The classic Universal horror version with Bela Lugosi, is my favorite and the one I'd vote 'Best Dracula Movie', but I'd put the '92 movie in the Top Ten. Granted, I didn't care for any of Christopher Lee DRACULA movies, so I may not be with the majority of fans.
I don't recall the title, but there was a documentary type TV special hosted by Lee, done around the time BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA(1992) was coming out, as it is mentioned near the end as an 'upcoming feature'. They go over the history of the character on screen, giving a bit of time to Nosferatu and a good chunk of time to Bela Lugosi's career, as well as more comedic turns for Dracula. I believe it was about 2 hours long, and they did another one all about Bela Lugosi himself that was an hour long, and they talked to one of his children and one of Boris Karloff's children. I caught both during a special Halloween event on a local channel when I was traveling one October, and they showed both specials, as well as ones about Frankenstein, Wolfman, Bride of Frankenstein, and others.

The production design is MAGNIFICENT.
The music score is INCREDIBLE.
Keanu Reeves is absolutely TERRIBLE.
Winona Ryder is miscast.
Anthony Hopkins is too over-the-top (at times).
Gary Oldman is simply TOO SHORT TO PLAY DRACULA. (Fantastic actor, but he is miscast here... Watch the scene in which Harker cuts himself shaving and the Count comes up behind him. Dracula should be the tallest character in any Dracula film -- like Christopher Lee!)
That double-bun "granny" hairdo Drac sports in the beginning of the film is LAUGHABLE. (What the fuck were they thinking?)

I am not against the film; operatic flair with great cinematography and production values, and a musical score by Wojkiech Kilar (I have it on DVD and Blu-Ray). However, it is NOT the faithful adaptation. The only fresh adaptations from the novel are having all THREE Lucy suitors and Dracula getting fatally stabbed by a knife. Its core theme, its MUMMY/DARK SHADOWS-esque plot is not Stoker. For a faithful representation of the Count as described by Stoker, there is Christopher Lee's mustachioed count in EL CONDE DRACULA (1971); For a more faithful adaptation of the novel, there is COUNT DRACULA (1977) turning 40 this year (True, Jourdan does not look like the canonical count, Lucy and Mina are sisters, and Quincy's last name is Holmwood, but it gets the material a lot more right than Coppola).

It's a sumptuous adaptation and I love it. It has some minor flaws, as most films do, or maybe they are just my opinions, but overall, a classic. Oldman seemed the weirdest choice at the time, until I saw him in the role. Best bit: That creepy laugh he does near the beginning with his hair up. THE DEFINITIVE DRACULA LAUGH from then on!
