Texas Rangers. 4th Biggest City in the country has been ravaged by Hurricane Harvey - and the Rangers have refused to switch a series against the Astros (supposed to be played in weather beaten Houston) to their home park for the time being and then come down to Houston later in Sept. when hopefully humanity is restored. Despicable. Who's with me? Thoughts? Discuss.

It seems so on the surface until you think about it a bit more. People would not just have bought tickets to the September series, some might have booked hotels and flights to attend it. So if you flipped the series, you're inconveniencing more people than if you just play this one at a neutral site. Texas made the right decision.

Either way, Astros would be on the road this week.

Money is worth more than being respectful and cooperative to a tragedy that has cost lives in your own state no less and wanting to help out a fellow 'brother'? Ladies and gentleman - I present you with the asshole of the century! Poorly played by the Rangers.

that being said the Jays are one of my most despised teams for what Joe Carter did to the Phils in '93 Sorry about that as we love that one up here, our last title... I remember walking home as a kid with tears in my eyes. What happened to Mitch Williams afterwards was horrible. Death threats. Nobody deserves that. He eventually got accepted back for the most part - by just being a stand up and regular guy. It's amazing you guys haven't had more success being the Leafs are pretty much the most iconic hockey team of all-time along with the Canadiens (can argue Detroit and Chicago, Boston and the Rangers I guess) - I really thought those Mats Sundin/Felix Potvin teams would have went somewhere. Then you had Carter and the Raptors. Truth be told I think they're on the downward trend now - didn't like the Lowry signing - love him as a player - but to give an aging PG a contract like that spells trouble....

The Leafs are in a good spot right now with their rebuild and might surprise some people this season. With the Jays and especially Raptors its difficult because the biggest and best free agent players won't play in Canada and thus we can't compete with you big boys down there.

I have the same argument about Philly. You're in the Northeast. You're not that far from New York. And let's call a spade a spade - it's not like Toronto is 'Calgary' - you're still in the Northeast. New England is an attraction too which is close by (i.e. Boston). Worse areas for Pro Sports I can think about like Wisconsin, Arizona, Tennessee (I love the collegiate atmosphere down there - but truth be told - if I'm an pro athlete I'll retire there - not play there - same as Arizona and Green Bay)

While its it's a bad look for the Rangers, as usual the media blows it out of proportion. i highly doubt the people in Houston that lost everything give two shits about a baseball game when they're going through all of this. Also, what's not being reporter is the rangers offered to give all proceeds from the gate to the hurricane relief fund, this was denied

I think the Rangers' decision was understandable once we learned all of the details/considerations. They would have gladly hosted these games, and they offered to let the Astros be the home team in Arlington.
They just didn't want to give up their home series against the Astros next month. And one of the reasons for that is that for the last three weeks of the season, they're only home that last week. If they changed that series against the Astros, then for the last three weeks of the season they'd only be home for one series of four games.
You might as well blame the Astros for not letting the Rangers simply host the two remaining series.

Well, what advantage does it give the Astros to have this series at Tropicana Field instead? They might as well have just played both series in Arlington. At least there might have been a crowd there.

Even if you are a wormy cold hearted used car salesman / con artist - you should view this as a good opportunity to get some good publicity acting like you actually 'care' and are doing something for your fellow 'brother'. I was seriously asking what advantage it gives the Astros to have the games at Tropicana Field rather than just playing both series in Arlington. What's the answer to that? Do the Astros have a horrible record in Arlington or something?

Anyone who actually reads the details sees that the Rangers didn't do anything to warrant this type of reaction, and you're actually suggesting that they make false gestures to appease those who aren't smart enough to read past headlines. Fuck that. Shame on you, I say.
