"It started as a secret experiment... It ended up as a new breed of terror!"A young teenager (Corey Haim) ends up with more than he can handle, when he decides to bring in and befriend a lost golden retriever, but the happy times do not last very long, as it soon turns out that the dog do not only come with some very special powers, but also some very dangerous owners, who will do whatever it takes to get their furry four legged "friend" back in one piece.Another good and enjoyable little 80s horror film starring Corey Haim and Lala Sloatman in the main leads and with the always menacing Michael Ironside as the main villain, well that and a hairy beast that is also a "dog lover". I remember seeing one of the "sequels" back on VHS in summer of 2002 or 03, and that was not a very impressive moment, so it was a pleasant surprise when I finally got to see the original on DVD some time later on. I like the feel-good vibe of the film, and while it never is close to become very scary, I thought the most frightening aspect of it was the ruthless NSO Agent Johnson (Ironside) and his nasty piece of work and that more scary than the actual beast.

Watchers 2 is actually more like the original novel, which was just great, so worthy of a much better adaptation. Still, on It's own, it's an okay movie...but it could have been so much more.

I am not really sure which of the sequels I actually saw back then, its been some time and I do not remember all too much but somehow I am kind of curious to maybe picking up part 2 and 3, as they do seem a little fun/enjoyable, or at least from watching the trailers that is. Never read the original novel though.

I was never sure why they made the main character a teenager in the movie. I was led to believe in the novel he was in his 30βs or 40βs. Other than that itβs a great movie. Second is pretty good.

My memory is of not liking it, and thinking the book was better.

Having read the terrific Dean Koontz novel first, I was very disappointed with the film adaptation. All the qualities that made the book so good are missing from the movie. Also, Corey Haim was very annoying.

What sucks is so many Stephen King movies are now getting remade, and yet we're all still waiting for a decent Dean Koontz adaptation, well, Phantoms wasn't too bad.
