One of the great upsets in any sport. Villanova was mediocre and Georgetown was terrifying. The Hoyas swould probably win 96 out of 100 games against Nova. But when your teams greatest asset is defensive rebounds and your opponent shoots 80%, it ain't your day.
Man, the Big East coaches. Mashaminnow, Big Jawn, Lucky Lou, Boeheim the Blubberer. I miss the Big East.

I miss the Big East. g'town played a couple close games against 'nova in the reg. season...should have had a better g-plan. full court press? that st. john's team that made the final 4 that year was pretty solid too.

St. John's won the Big East regular season. 31-4/15-1. Chris Mullin, Walter Berry, Mark Jackson, Bill Wennington. Like Houston in 1983, I think Georgetown figured the semifinal was the real test and their opponent in the final (Villanova or Memphis State) would be a walkover. My father and brother seen St. John's that year lose to Niagara. I didn't go. That was the only game that the Redmen lost that wasn't to the Hoyas.

That final four was the luck of the draw for Nova because G-Town owned St. Johns, St. Johns owned Nova yet Nova played G-Town tough which is why I rooted for the Hoyas over the Redmen. I'm glad Rollie got to watch the Cats win another championship before he passed!
