Loved him since the early sixties. My father had this album and we played it over and over.

In 1971, Newhart made a TV movie with Gene Wilder (which didn't first air until three years later, for whatever reason) called Thursday's Game, in which they play two friends who've been part of the same weekly poker game for years, and decide when the game breaks up permanently to continue using that one evening a week as a "boys night out," doing things they otherwise didn't have time for (museums; shows and whatnot). This alteration of their routine leads both to unexpected and profound reassessments of their lives.
Written by James L. Brooks and featuring a sterling cast (Ellen Burstyn, Cloris Leachman, Martha Scott, Nancy Walker, Norman Fell, Valerie Harper and Rob Reiner among others), this thoughtful and consistently charming film is apparently little-remembered, but highly recommended (by me, anyway) and the chemistry and harmony between Newhart and Wilder is gem-like.

Loved him since the early sixties. My father had this album and we played it over and over. I loved that album, too. My favorite bits were: Abraham Lincoln's press agent ("You changed 'four score and seven' to, to...87?"), the driving instructor, and the submarine commander.

"Now, looking back on the mutiny...."
I also liked Sir Walter Raleigh – "You do what with tobacco, Walt? You roll it up, set it on fire, and put it in your mouth?!"

Tom Poston Tangent Hope that you and Bob won't mind. I didn't know that Tom was married to Suzanne. He was 80 when they got married. Rather a Mel Brooks/ Anne Bancroft set but they actually make sense together. Tom used to be on the original show as the practical joking college buddy. Really funny stuff.
Back to Newhart Did you ever see his other show "BOB" ? I liked it. He was a cartoonist in it.
anyhooo.... and thanks for hosting another party spiderwort .

BATouttaheck No, I never saw BOB. I don't think I ever even knew about it. As for Suzanne and Tom, yes it was a late in life marriage after Suzanne's husband, Thomas J Gallagher III passed away, and Tom's wife Wilma Kay Hudson passed away. What you may not know is that Suzanne and Tom dated for awhile in the fifties when they were acting students in New York. I miss Suzanne. She was one of the world's really special people, may she rest in peace.

I don't think any of Bob Newhart's shows was ever showed on Swedish TV, the only thing that they used to show very much in the 1980s was a sketch from The Dean Martin Show, something about a man wanting a refund for a toupé he acidentaly dropped in a fondue cheese dip. It's in later years I've learned what an icon in entertainment he is.
