Schmaltz of the highest order...my next choice for him would have been Conspiracy Theory...a double whammy of Gibson and Julia Roberts...

Philip Seymour Hoffman - he's been in quite a few I didn't care for, although there are plenty I haven't seen, too. I've never been a big fan of him, but the worst was probably Synecdoche, New York. That one made me angry.
Anthony Hopkins - Hopkins I am a fan of, but he's also done quite a few films that aren't exactly my bag. There's also a lot of his filmography that I haven't seen yet (more than I realized based on looking at his filmography just now). Of course, he's done a bunch of films I love, too. Anyway, of the stuff I don't care for so much, I suppose picking Howard's End for this is as good as any. I didn't hate it or anything, but I just don't care for realist/soap-operatic drama.
Kurt Russell - I'm a pretty big fan. I've seen most of his filmography and really like or love most of it. Hate Death Proof though.
Tom Cruise - Not necessarily a fan of him per se, but usually does good work and he's been in a ton of great films. However, I pretty much equally hate Interview with the Vampire and Eyes Wide Shut
Sean Connery - moderate fan. I especially love the James Bond films and some of his later work. Plenty of his, and especially plenty of his earliest films, I haven't seen (though I have seen things like Zardoz even). The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen I thought was a complete mess when I saw it in theaters, but I watched it again later on DVD and liked it okay. I probably have to go with that, though, because everything else I remember well enough I like at least as much as I liked that one on rewatch.
Nicolas Cage - Huge fan. If I haven't seen every single film he's been in, I've seen close to it, including all of the recent direct-to-DVD etc. stuff. And I like the vast majority of it. Some I don't remember very well, and some I'd want to see again before commenting on them, but it wasn't too long ago that I watched Birdy, and I didn't exactly love it.
Samuel L. Jackson - Huge fan. Again I've seen the vast maority of his output. This is one where I might agree with you. I also thought that The Spirit was particularly bad.
For the following, I can't recall anything I've seen of theirs that I thought was bad, and any choice I'd make for this poll would seem unfair, because it would be something I'd rate at least a 4/5 to my memory: Sigourney Weaver - kind of similar to Tom Cruise. I'm not a big fan of her per se, but she does good work and has been in lots of good films. Mel Gibson - pretty big fan. Clint Eastwood - pretty big fan.

Not only is Hopkins the best thing about the movie by a huge fucking margin, but it is also my favorite performance from him in a while. The irony
