The sequels have the potential to make squillions. Once it's been on home release and tv the audience will be even greater.

Made $3.76 million on Thursday for $90.21 million total so far in China.
I have noticed that the numbers change each day though, I presume the initial number is an estimate and they update it to be accurate figure over time.
It's got a good chance of passing Guardians of the Galaxy 2 worldwide by the end of the weekend.

Still in line to top Spidey 3?

Still in line to top Spidey 3? Well earlier today one of the more knowledgeable users on the Chinese box office said it was looking at having a $12-13 million second weekend. A final total of $118 million. Which would mean it wouldn't be enough to outgross Spider-man 3 because it'd finish in the $875-880 million range. I actually misread his post the first time around and thought he meant $118 million just after this weekend so it won't be passing GOTG2 this weekend actually. It probably won't be far off though.

What is it about Chinese culture that everybody who is going to see a movie shows up the first weekend and there is no such thing as having legs there?

I think they have a limit on how long these movies are actually in theatres for. In other countries they'll stay in theatres for months as long as they continue to make money but in China they close after a certain amount of time regardless. It is a frontloaded market though.

I'm not sure I understand the point of predetermining that you are going to pull a movie regardless of people wanting to see it. That just sounds weird.
On the other hand, I'm not sure how as a society they either show up week 1 or don't show up at all, and what about repeat viewings? How can there not be a portion who had other plans week 1, or who just don't like opening weekend crowds, or who just thought it was less of a priority and went week 3 or 4. It just seems weird that none of those things apply much there.

Grossed about $3.1 million on Friday. Should be between $93-96 million there.
It's gonna have a big second weekend drop, largely because War for the Planet of the Apes came out and is doing pretty well there.

Hollywood releases have limited time as per government ruling. SMH came out so late because government banned Hollywood releases in August. They want Western culture contained. Chinese releases go on forever, like wolf warrior 2, that's at 870+ million there. When people know they will only get 2 maybe 3 weeks to see a movie they flock on the first weekend.

Fuckin yanks! yeah, but in a country where there's internet censorship, banning of books, movies etc that go against government ideology it's too be expected. They are far to be a truly free society. Suicide squad was banned for having supernatural themes, and all time traveling themes also. Also Tibet... China is weird.

Might be up to $7 million for Saturday. With Friday that should put it at about $10 million.
If Sunday outperforms Friday which it looks like is the norm in China then maybe it could do $14 million for the second weekend.

nice. 105 million as a final total or do you mean currently? It's currently at $105 million. Supposedly it'll lose 90% of its screens next Saturday.

It only had a 6.6% drop in the US from last weekend too. If it can keep this up it could pass Spider-man 3 domestically at least.
