He's saying #1, but what he means is #1 if you only count 1 specific country.
I find it kind of amusing that he copied my thread title though. If that doesn't say insecure, I don't know what does.

Wonder Woman been a big success for sure and it is awesome. It currently holds the title of the 'Most Successful Female Lead Comic Book Movie of All Time' and with new movies of 'Batgirl', 'Painkiller Jane', 'Razor', 'Avegeleyne', 'Strike', 'Princeless', 'Silver & Black', Captain Marvel', 'Sheena: Queen of the Jungle', 'Fathom' (movie or TV show confirmed by Blake Northcott with Nina Dobrev and Victoria Justice frontrunners to play Aspen), 'Wonder Woman 2', 'The Pro', 'Gotham City Sirens' etc in development and Geoff Johns confirming plans to bring more big female superheroes to the DCEU it has already laid the groundwork for future female lead comic book movies and has finally changed the way a lot of studios see female lead comic books so 'Wonder Woman' has left a mark like no other movie this year and will be remembered for years to come for being the movie that made the studios wake up.

Too bad the haters won’t mention any of that though. Only the other films that have passed it which isn’t a surprise at all. They can’t give credit when credit is due.

I give it credit for being a great success, and a basic foundation for a franchise. It's well presented, but is a more or less a single layer plot with a somewhat bland ending that doesn't really have any interesting developments. It's good, but there isn't a lot to mine out of it, in other words.

For instance just compare how relevant Asgard is to the first Thor movie throughout the film to the Amazons who don't really have any impact on the plot once they establish that Ares exists. That's the kind of thing I'm talking about.
I'm giving an honest assessment here. That is a legitimate review.

In that regard I don't think anyone should argue that WW wasn't the most successful film of the summer as it did a lot more than just make a shitload of cash, it did everything you said and more in that it's actually also opened up not just the door for more female lead CBM's but also more opportunities for female directors, Patty Jenkins signing the biggest payday for any female director off the back of the films success and Sony trying to replicate the formula by signing a unproven in regards to money making but critically praised female director to helm the Silver & Black film show this.
That being said Wonder Woman being touted constantly as the No.1 success and stuff has irritated me, same for it's applause for it's critical reaction as though it stands alone, it was the No.1 film in America but it did get beat by a number of films globally and another film in the same genre got the exact same critical and fan response, so basically I just wish people would not try and overpraise wonder woman, mostly because it doesn't need it, it's a really good film, highly successful and very influential but fuck people need to stop making out like it's the second coming, imo atleast.

Yes. You are right. It did and while I don't think it was the greatest movie of the year either (I actually liked 'A Dog's Purpose' more and it moved me to tears in a few scenes) there is no denying the success of 'Wonder Woman' especially when it was a movie a lot of people did not expect to succeed 'cause it was female lead. I just heard Patty Jenkins is going to be paid more than any other female director for 'Wonder Woman 2' and it will be interesting to see if that movie has the same success as 'Wonder Woman' or it is more successful. It is coming out the same year as 'Frozen 2' though so I think it and a lot of other movies are going to be overshadowed though 'cause 'Frozen 2' is set to become the biggest selling Disney sequel of all time according to a lot of critics since the 'Frozen' fanbase has grown even bigger since the first movie. The question going forward is if any female lead comic book movie is going to be able to dethrone it 'cause I think that is going to be a big challenge for all the others I mentioned above including 'Captain Marvel.' I think 'Batgirl' could come very close 'cause she is one of the most well known female superheroes and a lot of people I know who went and saw 'Wonder Woman' but don't watch that many superhero movies are going to see it but I am not sure about 'Silver and Black.' 'Silver and Black' I feel need big name leads and I am hoping they use a big name for Catwoman and introduce her separately before 'Gotham City Sirens' so she is on more equal grounds to Harley. With that being said, you look awfully familiar, I think I may have seen you somewhere before.

Who me? nah I doubt our worlds ever collided before hehehe, Wonder Woman 2 maybe in for some trouble what with Star Wars episode 9 being pushed back to Dec 2019, so Wonder Woman likely wont have that same chance to be the big dog for an extended period of time, also being sandwiched between Frozen & Episode 9 is sure to hurt it even more, Wonder Woman maybe better off trying to stake their claim in August and scare away the competition early WB already have a date claimed so sliding WW2 in there should be easy enough.

Good for Wonder Woman, it was a great movie, and totally deserved every penny. See DC-Tard, I can say something good about DC movies because I'm not biased unlike you. You just blindly hate anything MCU because it's in the MCU, no matter how good it is.

Considering the (shamefully) small list that consists of, it is faint praise. It's basically as impressive as Lake Placid is the most successful killer alligator/crocodile movie ever. Or GOTG2 is the most successful talking mammal with a gun movie. It bugs me a little that it's success has to be reduced to sub and sub-sub genres to make out its impressive achievements are even more impressive. It was a very successful DC movie, a very successful CBM movie, and had a very healthy Box Office...and should be rightfully applauded for that. It could be applauded for being a successful female fronted action film full stop. Though, that really isn't a rarity. Reducing it's success to the context of sub sub genres (and territories) does hide it's shortcomings. If we take the Box Office for various countries it only was more popular than other CBMs in USA, Australia, Colombia, Brazil, Taiwan & Philippines. But 33 countries that have listed their annual BO figures have it below SMH, GOGT2 and/or Logan, and even Valerian, Ghost In The Shell and Lego Batman (and Doctor Strange in Japan!!). It's only in the Top 10 for the year in 14 of the 40 countries. It seems beyond the USA and the other few countries mentioned, it was just another CBM. Studios have been happy to invest in a francise that has performed less well domestically than it did overseas. Fingers crossed they are happy to do so when the reverse happens. I think it made DC/Warners wake up more than anyone else. It took DC/Warners 15 years to make it's first female fronted CBM movie (Catwoman) and 28 years to make a movie about one of the most recognised and famous comic book characters ever. Marvel's roster of female characters is less well recognised but they did give one of their most famous female characters a film after only 7 years (Elektra). They have populated their films with female characters but in teams...they have fewer known female characters left to put on screen, and certainly none as nearly as popular as DCs Wonder Woman or Catwoman. The films you mentioned in production should do well if they are good. Regardless if they are CBM films or not. Female fronted action films generally do well. There have been many successful CBM films with most of the public not knowing that they are CBM movies - Atomic Blonde, Men In Black, The Crow for example. Sometimes I think the CBM tag hinders a film, but then again they gotta sell those TPBs. On a side note..Modesty Blaise (1966) might have a shout at being one of the most successful female fronted CBM movie. Figures are only available for the US where it made more than double it's budget. Rest of the world figures aren't out there (or at least I can't find them) but the charater was pretty big in Europe at the time for sure.. Looking back that was all a bit rambly and I'm not sure I made the point I was intending. Oh well, I'll leave it.
