She was great today, talking about how Roman was nice to her, etc. I felt bad for Hattie. DH did a great job in those scenes with KA.

I agree, the performance was good. Before I saw your post, I was actually thinking about that scene, and how it made me wonder if the character could have emotional or developmental issues. It would be the sort of thing that could make for an interesting and compelling story; something reflecting our society in a sense, where someone like Hattie might be dismissed as nothing more than "slow" or undereducated, when in reality she's wired differently. We, as the audience, take it for granted, because she looks and sounds like a lot like a character who is pretty much the antithesis of that characteristic, not to mention the presence of character with genuine, willful ignorance; like Bonnie. That whole scene really did feel like the culmination of a story for someone who the likes of Stefano, and Andre and Angelica exploited, and then abandoned her to act on her own devices, which she's not as aptly equipped to do, making it rather tragic.
And of course the whole thing is bitter-sweet, when you have someone give such a good performance, without redeeming the steaming pile of a story that got them there.

Totally agree, they really could have made it from an angle that Hattie had developmental issues. There were certainly elements of that in the scene. She completely misunderstood kindness from Roman and manifested something more in her mind.
But you're right, again, the writers totally blew it.
